SO always tells me he’ll be somewhere/home “soon”. MY defintion of soon means between half an hour to an hour. Apparently his means between an hour and a half to two hours.
This is driving me nuts!!! I’ve spoken to him about it before, as he’s not the best planner in the world, but he’s starting to slip back into old habbits. I think it’s just getting on my nerves todat because I’m stranded at home, I sold my car earlier this week, and I’ve got a cold/flu, so I’m going a bit stir crazy and want some company.
So what time frame do you expect “soon” to mean, and what does it actually mean from your SO/FI/DH?

So know what you mean! My DH uses soon as well but it can be 5 min or 2 hrs! It’s funny because he recently sent me this which made me laugh. Occasionally I may wait until last minute to get ready 🙂

Lol, see when I say I’ll be ready in 5 minutes, I mean I’ll be ready to walk out the door in 5 minutes. Growing up in a house full of boys when they said they were leaving in 5 minutes, they were leaving in 5 minutes, with or without you, lol, so this taught me to give the time span I mean.

@krayzay87: Soon to me means within a half an hour. When DH says, “I will be home soon” he usually gets home within a half an hour.

@krayzay87: +1 If I say 5 minutes, it’s probably more like 4.
DH on the other hand – if he says 5 minutes. Sit down, grab a snack and find something good on TV.

Easy. Don’t ask “when will you be home?” … he will answer soon.
Ask, “What time will you be home” .. he will need to give an actual time.
if he doens’t ask for a time frame.

Everyone’s idea of “soon” is very different, so I always ask for that information in time format.
Case-in-point: we have a good friend who is habitually late, and it drives me insane. “Soon” can mean anything from an hour to bailing out entirely. So now, I make sure I ask directly “what *time* will you be here.” That seems to help.

@krayzay87: my boyfriend rarely says “soon”. Usually if I ask him when he’ll be home, he’ll give me a specific time. Or if he’s close, he’ll say a really random number, like “I’ll be home in 8 minutes”. What’s crazy is he’s usually really close to being right.

FI does this to me. To me “soon” is anywhere between 15 minutes to an hour. To him, it’s anywhere between an hour and THREE HOURS.
Especially when I call him and ask “When are you coming home from work?” “Soon” It’s at least an hour from the time we hang up to the time he walks in the door.
I hate it.
Also, with his job, if I ask “What time will you be home?” He just says, “I don’t know.” (He works with computers so it depends on how long it takes the computer to do whatever it is he’s trying to get it to do. T___T
