Congratulations! Well, even though I had mentioned to each of my bridesmaids that I would be asking them, I also mailed each of them an "official" invitation to be a bridesmaid. I included links to some articles on The Knot in the invite and a copy of a FAQ sheet on being a bridesmaid (and maid of honor) that I found on The Knot. They really liked the little package I sent them because it not only was a nice way to officially ask, but it put what they would be doing in perspective. It was first time I had ever mailed out an "invite" of any sort and got responses from everyone the day it was received! By the time I asked them I already knew the colors I wanted, so I made the invites in my wedding colors as well. I used the designhergals.com website to create an avatar of each of my girlfriends and printed them out on my own computer -- so each invite was personalized. I don't have an example of the invite I sent them, but the spa day invites I made them used a similar method -- you can see them here http://calioc.blogspot.com/2008/06/its-all-about-bms.html
Good luck!
I waited until I had a date to ask them all formally, but you could ask them with just a general idea can you try and keep this time open for the wedding. Did you pick a place yet ?

Hi- Am new to this board, and just got engaged! We are looking at a date <1 yr from now, and my closest friends who I want to ask live across the country. I'm in SF, one is in Houston, the other in Seattle.
We don't have a date set in stone yet- so is it too soon to ask? I feel like the sooner the better because I know they have difficult work schedules that are already in place for the next year. I'm worried about how to coordinate all the pre-wedding stuff, parties, dress fittings etc. with my bridal party spread out across the country. (I'm the only one here and wedding will be in CA)
Glad to have found this board!
