My new hubby and I are not seeing eye to eye on when to start buying things off of our registry. So I come to the WB of course to find out when you guys think you should start using your gift cards, cash or checks to purchase your missing items.
Do you buy stuff as soon as you get the money to cover the items?
Do you wait a month or two to make sure you don’t end up with anything else?

Wait a month or two. I received gifts after the wedding.
EDIT: Ahem WE recieved gifts after the wedding 🙂

I agree, wait a bit. Also, for BB&B at least, the completion coupon isn’t mailed out for at least a few months after the wedding.

We were still getting gifts off our registry a few months after our wedding, so I’d wait.

If you have a Macy’s registry, wait until they offer 20% off. It cycles through every 3 months or so. I didn’t receive any gifts after the wedding, so I started buying the rest pretty much right away…but only on sale! Oh and I waited for the gift card with my cash back reward too which took at least 3 months.

Boo the majority is on my husband’s side. I wasn’t planning on buying anything with our own money for a while out. However, I was wanting to use the cash or gift cards because I figure that will then show that it is purchased already off the registry and we have more then enough items left for other people to still be able to purchase things. Plus when I write thank you notes I like to tell the person what I used their gift card/cash to purchase and if I wait then that means I also wait to write the cards.
LOL oh well I guess he won this one.

We bought within a month of the wedding so that we could take advantage of the registry completion discounts at Target and Macy’s.

I think it depends on your registry. Some registries only give you discounts for 3 months after your wedding. If they are really good deals and you have the money, I would go ahead and buy them. But if your registry and discounts lasts longer than that I would wait. I’m not sure what we’re going to do. We have most of the things we need already, so our registry has mostly upgrades on it… we may not complete anything after our wedding.

@amariem25: What does Target offer for a registry completion? We have a registry with them and never saw anything saying we got anything.
