Our photographer recommend btwn 35-38 weeks. We are doing ours at the end of October, and will be 36 weeks by then. Even in the winter they should be able to do some pretty revealing bump pics, just pack lots of layers and then strip down for a couple shots! I’ve seen some gorgeous winter shoots as well, just make sure your feet and hands are warm!

I said 32 weeks because you’ll still have great photos but you won’t be too tired.

My photoshoot is booked for 32w6d (on Nov 23rd).  Also I didn’t want to get into December because of holidays and it being really cold.

As a photographer, I recommend 7-8 months, when you feel the most comfortable.

I am scheduled to have maternity photos done on Friday (I’ll be 33+5) and I feel like I could almost wait another couple of weeks! On the bright side, I”m not swollen (yet) so I guess there’s a trade off there. Definitely check out http://www.ontobaby.com/category/portraits/maternity/. There are some absolutely darling winter maternity sessions on there! It made me almost wish we were going to have snow for our session!!!

I say whenever you feel most comfortable… That said, I think they should be done before the last month, that’s when people start looking more uncomfortable than “glowing”, you know?

How tall are you? I feel like height has a HUGE impact on when the bump really starts to pop. I’m pretty tall — 5’9 — and I did my photos at 34 weeks, which is past the usual “magic window” of 28-32 weeks because I was just too small then. I COULD have held out to 35-36 easily, but I was worried about doing that since 1) you really don’t know how you’re going to feel, and 2) I knew so many people who had had their babies by that point; I’d hate to have the baby early and miss my chance completely! So 34 seemed like a good compromise 🙂

@iarebridezilla:  +1 to the height thing! I am almost 5’8 and have a long torso, so I’ve had lots of room for baby and haven’t become as big as quickly as some of the shorter girls i have known who look like they are due anyday around the 32 week mark!

I had a baby shower at 37 weeks and I felt like my bump was the perfect size. I’m also tall (5’9″) and didn’t get big until . . . well, I didn’t really ever get big.

Just adding to what some of the other bee’s said. Photographers I’ve contacted usually suggest week 35 for maternity pics.

I took mine at 34w and I was pretty happy. I didn’t want a gigantic baby bump; I just wanted just enough to be clearly pregnant. At 34w, it was a good time for me and my photographer actually commented I looked a bit smaller than 34w, which I was happy about. I actually meant to take them earlier (27/28w) but then I was too busy at that time.

Some things to consider about waiting until you’re really far along would be:

    – What are your clothing options? Some women have a hard time fitting into even their maternity clothes as they really progress along in their pregnancy.

    – How comfortable are you with walking, standing and posing? It can get tiring.

    – What if you go into labor early and miss your chance to take photos?
