I wasn't planning on doing this until August or so (both of my showers are scheduled for September), but a classmate recently asked where we were registered, I told her no where yet, and she said to make sure I let her know as soon as we are. This got me thinking that maybe this needs to be done sooner than August? I read somewhere not to register sooner than six months. Help!

I read to register right away! You can keep it small and just put non-seasonal basics (cookware tends to be pretty permanent in the inventory, for example) and add seasonal items like linens (etc.) closer to the date. At least that way you can tell people *where* you're registered, even if there's not much to buy yet.

I think you should do it sooner.  We were getting questions about where we were registered 6 months before the wedding at least.  Even if you don't want to put everything on there right now (and you probably shouldn't since some things will go on clearance), it's good to have some things on there now.

I've also read the sooner, the better. You should update it and check for discontinued items as the wedding nears, though.

You do it right away. That way people can buy things for your shower. Also...if there are upcoming holidays or birthdays...people will buy from there too sometimes.

Register right now .....have fun! :-)

My wedding's in March & we registered the beginning of this month! We did this because we wanted to make sure everything we registered for was gonna be there & not go on clearance, etc. But it's completely up to you...a girl that's getting married a week before me registered around September! I just knew that most of my guests wouldn't be buying gifts until after I sent out the invitations!
