To those bees that have DIY invites, how far in advance did you start printing and puting together your invites?  We need to send out our invites in January.  I've already gotten everything we need and was wondering if I could start now, at least with the printing.  I have 2 weeks of summer left then school starts so the next time I'll be off is December and I'm scared that will be too late.

@Hobokenbride2012: Ours is in April and I've already printed and assembled (for the most part) our invites.

But that's just us... cause some might actually be sent out sooner than later.  Depends on my FI and who needs 'em way ahead of time (instead of just through email).

If you have your venues and know the timeline of the day I don't see any problem with starting them now. If you start putting them together now hopefully you could get the bulk done and just use a night here and there to finish the remainder up. Personally I wouldn't wait until December because I'm usually extremely busy. Once finals are finished it's on to the rush of one house after another for holiday festivities!

Agreed.  If everything is already set and won't change, I say start the printing as soon as possible.  That way, if you run into any issues, you have plenty of time to fix it.

My goal was to get them printed and assembled by mid-September and be mailed out by mid-October. RSVPs due by mid-November.

I'm getting married one week before you (what up, month twin!) and we've started printing and assembling our invites already. We're planning to mail them around Christmas, but we figure it can't hurt to get them ready early and keep them sealed up in a box until then.

I'd give yourself as much time as possible so you have more time if things go wrong.

Ditto parasol...allow time for mistakes! You might need to order more materials to account for goof ups which might take a lot of time. I printed my own and the ink came from japan, which meant if I ran out it would take 2 weeks for more ink to arrive!
