Hello Bees! Just wondering how far in advance of your wedding you registered.

Hi!  I'm curious too...we got engaged in February and are getting married Sept 2011.  We are going to register the end of September before we send the save the dates which will have our wedding site on it.  I have had friends who have registered a week or two after they got engaged.  I thought that was a llittle tasteless..especially to announce it on facebook.  It's like "Look we're engaged and this is what we want you to buy us!"  I guess I understand if it was a short engagement but msot of my friends arent until summer 2011.  People were asking me where we were registered for our engagement party but I didnt want to register that soon.

That's a tough question to answer!  Only you can decide what's best for you because there are pros and cons!  On the one hand, you don't want to register too early because, the farther our from your wedding you register, the more likely you will run into items being discontinued/out of stock.  However, the sooner you register, people will be able to purchase from your registry if they like.  Christmas is coming up.  Some women like to receive registry stuff for Christmas but some would rather not.  It's such a personal preference.  It should definitley be done before any showers are announced.

We are registering this weekend, so 9 months in advance, but only because my fiance is military and we don't know how many opportunities we will have to visit.  Otherwise I probably would have waited until 6 months out of so.  I'm definitley going to keep a close eye on it for discontinuations/clearence etc.  I agree with the pervious post that it is a personal preference.  Whatever you are comfortable with and works out best for you!

Personal experience: DH and I registered in December 2009/January 2010 for our July 2010 wedding because our STDs were going out and we wanted it to be set up and available.  By the time we sent out actual invitations in early May 2010, the vast majority of our BB&B registry was discontinued and a large handful of our Target registry items were as well.  We basically had to redo our entire BB&B registry!

We had no holiday type items or anything on these registries.  This was glasses, small appliances, bedding, bathroom set, etc - it was such a hassle having to redo everything.  Plus - despite it all being available for months almost NOTHING was bought until a few weeks before the wedding.

All that said, my advice is to wait until a few weeks before your actual invites go out.  No one will really be buying you anything before then and you minimize the amount of time stuff can be discontinued.

We registered in June, for our Oct wedding, and have ran into a few items being discountinued. Just in our experience, I would register closer to when your shower invites are being sent out. On our website we just put registry information 'coming soon', and then updated it once we did it.

I think anytime you are comfortable with registering is good

I agree with @Mrs.KMM: . We ended but having to redo our registries several times. A lot of bathroom accessories that I had my heart set on got discontinued, and it was dissappointing. I think a month or two before your first shower if you are having any is plenty of time.

@pennednpapered: I was so disappointed when some of the stuff got discontinued too!  We lost one set of bedding and had to pick another.  Then it got discontinued too!  So we ended up buying it ourselves.
