Are you expecting everyone (especially OOT guests) to attend the engagement party?  If so, then I think the normal 6-8 weeks before your RSVP due date is fine.  My thought is that you are awfully close to the holidays (Thanksgiving and Christmas), so just be prepared in case invitations get lost or forogtten around the hustle and bustle.  Give yourself enough time (looks like you do) to do follow ups.  Personally I’d rather it be early instead of last minute, I’m a planner.

I think that an RSVP date of almost 2 months ahead of time is way too early. I also think that sending invitations out 4 months a head of time is extremely early..

Oops sorry for the holiday error.  In that case, you could push sending them back about a month and shorten the RSVP time by a couple weeks.

This isn’t what you were asking about (I agree with what other posters have said about that), but….

When you say “We are having a DW, so we are having a large engagement party locally” am I correctly inferring that what you mean is “We are having a DW, so we are inviting a lot of people to a large enagement party that we aren’t planning to invite to our wedding,” or am I just reading too much into things?

The reason I ask is because, as you’re planning this party, you might want to keep in mind that traditional etiquette expects that anyone invited to a pre-wedding event (like an engagement party) is also invited to the wedding wedding. You may find that some of those 200 people, if they aren’t invited to the actual wedding, will be very surprised, hurt, and upset to not receive a wedding invitation, because they (correctly) assumed an engagement party invitation should mean a wedding invitation, unless it’s made very explicitly clear otherwise.
