I am going to look into save the dates cards and ideas very soon and decide on ordering some end of this month or early next month. Iam also inviting people outside of the states and our wedding on a Friday and the reception hall is an hour away from the ceremony. When do you think is best to send out save the dates?

I think you can send them out as soon as you're ready. Especially if you're sending them overseas. I think the "normal" timeline is 6-8 months out.

I just sent our save the dates; it's about 7 months away. However, about 50 percent of our guests are out of town. I think if most of your guests are in town, you can do 5 months or less.

i'm planning on sending them 7-8 months out, although it turns out that someone i went to college with who i have a lot of mutual firneds with already sent out save the dates for their wedding on the same day as ours (a year in advnace), so i guess if you have some competition for the date, send it earlier. we needed to trim our guest list anyways so i guess that's the silver lining for me....

How about in January once the holidays are over, so your card doesn't get lost in the shuffle?

@prettyflowers: Yeah I was thinking about the holidays, but I also dont want to send them in the winter , either before or after and after could be too late, at least for what I think. I might do before winter comes..who knows what kind of snow storms we or they can get.
