With your timeline, I would say in the next 3-4 months would be good. It also depends what season you want, and you might want to use some at the actual ceremony.

I’m of the opinion that you can take them whenever the heck is convenient for you 🙂 My FI and I really wanted ours done at Disney, but since we’re not sure we can afford another long trip before the wedding (or we were just super impatient haha ) he hired the photographer to take them the day he proposed (which just so also happened to be at Disney)! So we got our done the exact same day as the proposal, we just got the photos back last Friday and I LOVE them.

paigey22:  I wanted to do mine in the fall with the leaves turning colors but when we found our photographer he suggested the sooner the better, only because he is pretty popular and it was around the time of wedding season, so he suggested to get them done so he could have them to us in a timely manner. We ended up doing them in June and we are getting married next May.

You have time to decide but I would ask your photographer what they suggest as well.

paigey22:  We are getting married in August. We got engaged early August and got our photos taken in November. Our plan there was because we’re planning to have all of our Save the Dates sent out in January. If you’re going to do Save the Dates, I would plan to have them taken a couple of months before you want to send them out (if you’re including photos).

Another option is making a choice based on the season you want your photos taken in.

paigey22:  i say you do it when you feel like you are ready. I have been engaged 2 going on 3 years this december, my wedding is 9/18/15 and we just took our engagement pictures this past sunday. I wanted a fall theme engagement picture and we wanted to send our save the date after the holiday. I say you do it a couple month before you want to send your save the date out.

paigey22:  Take them whenever if works for you. If you need them for a save-the-date, the ealier the better so you can order and mail out. If you’re taking them “just because” and feel you want to wait that’s fine too.
