My FI and I are having 2 bridesmaids and 5 groomswomen. We have decided that they will all wear the same thing and that I would get to choose.
I went to David’s Bridal with one of the groomswomen a few months ago and we both tried on dresses in a variety of shades and picked a color that we felt would look fantastic on everyone (apple, which is a deep red). Everyone is so spread out (no two bm or gw lives in the same state) so I wanted to tell them to get a long chiffon dress in apple and have it by the wedding, which is just under 11 months away.
My sister (one of the BMs) assures me that it is WAY too early to tell everyone what the clothing parameters are because there will be new colors coming out for fall 2014 and David’s Bridal might not even have Apple anymore. She suggests not giving everyone the required information until around May, which is 5 months before the wedding.
I’d like everyone to have a little flexibility and be able to search for sales so they can get good deals on their dresses, not have to run out right away in order to get the dress by the wedding.
Long story short, when should I be giving out this information?

I was engaged 5 years ago and they had “apple” as a color.
It’s not going anywhere! It’s SUPER popular!

I would show them the picture now but explain that the shade might change based on what the store offers next year. My bridal salon said that bridesmaid dresses needed to be ordered 4-6 months prior to the wedding. DB is usually good about the shades/colours so I can’t see it changing that much plus it gives your BM’s and GW’s time to save for the cost of the dress now. My girls were so excited to go shopping that I made an appointment on saturday to go. I hope we find something that way everyone knows how much its going to cost for the dress. Weddings are expensive and if I were in the bridal party, the sooner I knew the dress/price, the easier it would be on me to know how much to save. Just think about being in a wedding party and when you’d like to know things. Only you know your BM’s and GW’s and how they might feel!

@BrandNewBride: Thanks – I didn’t realize they keep colors that long, that definitely makes my decision easier, it’s just about finding a balance between seeming too into my wedding and getting them the info they need in time to search for sales.
