Hi, bees! I’m trying to decide when we should give a tip to our photographer. Our photographer is actually my second cousin, and since we are family she automatically threw in our engagement photo session for free. This was much appreciated, especially since we might not have been able to justify paying for it otherwise. She did a great job with our engagement pictures, and in the next day or two I’ll be going to pick up the CD with all the images. She does own the business so I have read tipping isn’t necessary in this situation, but since she did the e-pics for free I wanted to.
Our wedding isn’t until September 2015, and full payment is due 14 days ahead. I feel like it would be most customary to tip on the wedding day, or after the wedding when we receive the photos. But I’m wondering whether I should tip her this week, since she didn’t get paid for the engagement session? We did already put down a deposit on the photography package. I don’t think it’s necessary to tip twice, so that’s not really an option I’m considering. I’m thinking about giving her a thank you note and a gift card to a nice restaurant as a tip, since she is family – does that sound like a good idea?
Let me know what you all think! Thanks! 🙂
