I know there have been similar postings on this subject but I’m in a pickle here ladies and I need to vent! My BF of nearly 3 years and I have had several “serious” discussions about getting engaged and my general preferences in terms of ring shape, ct weight, etc. He has been insistent that he wants to pick out the ring himself and surprise me with the proposal, which I agreed to. Unfortunately, over a month ago I stumbled across an email from a diamond jeweler on his laptop (it just popped up on his gmail alert, I typically don’t peruse his email lol) which basically detailed his whole transaction. At first I was a little shocked as he hadn’t even hinted at the fact that he purchased the ring but that was quickly replaced by excitement. I was disappointed of course that I ruined his surprise but decided not to say anything and “play along”. Fast forward to nearly a month and a half later and still no ring. There have been several occasions on which I felt for sure he would propose: me finishing my third year of graduate school before the holidays and then on NYE when he threw a small party at his home but nada … no ring! What’s worse is that I don’t see any potential occasions through the winter months, this isn’t to say that he might be planning something but we have no trips or “special dates” set aside yet. Possibly my birthday but that isn’t till April! I even went as far to suggest a weekend getaway to a bed and breakfast or ski lodge and he didn’t bite. I don’t want to ruin the proposal, has anyone been in this situation before have advice? Any tips on how to gently nudge him forward without being forthcoming with my knowledge?
