We have to have ours for 72 hrs before the ceremony, but can't get it until 30 days before. I live in a different state, and he is working overseas a lot in the next two months.
So we're going to have to pick a day when he's back in the country, to take off work and school, and drive the 4.5 hours to meet in the middle and pick up a license. HASSLE, lol!!
I think our officiant hands in our license, and then we get a certificate in the mail. It's gonna go in our legal folder and probably never be seen again. I'm not into framing certificates or vows, etc... I'll save all my frames for pics of my handsome new husband!! :)
We are going a few weeks ahead of time. I am a little worried that it might not go smoothly because my FI was born in Argentina, and his birth certificate is in another language. Hopefully it won't be an issue, but I want to give us a little time, in case it is.
We picked ours up about a month and a half before our wedding date.
We picked ours up 2 weeks ago :P It's good for three months so why not!? Haha.
In my state its actually good indefinately and takes 24 hours to do...so we are planning on going the week after this week since FI is on a business trip till saturday
I'm in the same boat !My fiance comes home the weekend before the wedding, so we will be going to get it the week of.
In Texas, it's only good for 30 days, with at least a 72 hour waiting period (which can be waived for people in the military or who take a marriage class). We probably won't get ours until the 1st or 2nd week of April.
We're grabbing ours in a couple of weeks. We're legally getting married on March 28, so I figure that will give us ample time in case something comes up.
@elephant: We are in Texas also..we will be getting ours the 1st or 2nd week in April as well :)
probably middle of March... we found the price of the license varies enormously around here with our town (of course) being the most expensive so we are going to a nearby town when we have a chance.
We're getting married in DC and live out of state, so our officiant is being a wonderful dear and handling the entire marriage license process for us.
We got ours the day before we were married :P
In Louisana they waive the 72 hour waiting period if neither party is a resident of the state.
We're getting ours NEXT WEEK!! I'm stoked!! Georgia doesn't require the thirty day "limit", thank Goodness!
In MA we need to get the license at least 3 days ahead of time and it's good for 90 days when we do get it...but to make sure there's enough time and everything, I think we'll apply for it sometime in March.
We just went for ours yesterday! It's good for 90 days, so we figured that's one less thing to worry about later.
We are picking ours up the monday before the wedding.
In WA, it's good for 60 days, so we actually got it last week! FI was on vacation and I work from home, so we went during my lunch break. Since the office closes at 4:30, I didn't want him to have to leave work early when he already has vacation days last week. So we did it! We have it!
In Nevada you can get them up to a year in advance or the same day. We got ours 364 days before our wedding will be because we are going back to Nevada to get married but recently moved out of state....now I just have to make sure I don't lose it...
We're picking it up on our way to the hotel, the day before the wedding. I filled out the pre-application online on my lunch break yesterday. Thanks, Nevada!
We are getting ours on Tuesday! We applied on Thursday and there is a 3 day waiting period in MA. Once we have it, it is good for 60 days.
It definitely depends on what state you're in, so make sure to check your state and county/city laws (which I'm sure you have).
In VA there is no waiting period, and the license is good for 60 days, I think. We picked ours up the Monday or Tuesday before the wedding. It probably took us about 15 minutes total. Then our officiant mailed it in. She gave us an unofficial marriage certificate, but we haven't done anything with it. We also have copies of the official marriage license for legal purposes like name changing, but they're just photocopies and nothing special to look at.
We're getting married April 15, and picking up our wedding license April 1. : )
Just picked it up today :) It was kind of exciting!

Sorry, there are no users yet.
And do you plan to do anything fancy with it after the ceremony?
We're going to get ours March 28th I think. Gives us ample time since it's only a 15 minute process :p DF is military and has drill, our bachlor/ette parties, my fitting, he's out of town for 2 weeks...yada yada. So March 28th is actually kind of risky LOL, but it works.
I smiled sooo big when I realized it's almost time to start the little things like that :)
How is everyone holding up?
