nope- I don't think anyone thinks about these things when going to wedding except other brides :P
People will wear whatever they want no matter how well you word the invitation but honestly it doesn't matter! they won't be in your pictures and if they are, you'll just look that much better
Oh, I'm not worried about people coming to my wedding! This is for a wedding I'm attending in a couple weeks. I have this one dress that looks pretty awesome (if I can say so myself!) I don't want to go out and buy a different dress ;)
i almost NEVER wear a color that would be a normal wedding color so i dont usually worry about it. i ahve had a few brides who wanted to dictate what i was wearing as a guest (seriously?) things like "well my side of the family's color is blue so wear something blue" ummm no i hate blue. im wearing a color i like. lol
i just make sure i wear something appropriate for the dress for the wedding. :) i also have an LBD that i have deemed my "wedding guest dress" it fits all occasions depending on how i accessorize it. And i have another similar dress but lighter color for summery weddings :)
I ususally don't even know what the colors are. I never really thought it through that much. Where I lived, it was pretty laid back.
I would never try to dress like a bridesmaid... but I have been known to pick a dress in a shade of pink at a pink wedding. I think that if it was a black tie wedding that the formality of the bridesmaids dresses might be similar to what I might choose I would check to see what their style choice is so if it's a grecian flowing style in blue, I would be avoiding that style...
I woiuld never intentionally wear the color of the bridal party, but i also try to match the wedding. for example, if the colors were blush, ivory and black, i woudl probably wear black. i wouldnt wear a blue dress. i hate seeing wedding pictures where there is that ONE person that totally stands out in the pictures, and i never want to be that person!
Wow, I don't ususally even know the "colors" unless I'm super tight with the bride. I usually just try to look nice.
I avoid wearing colors that are on the invitations/STDs, but I wouldn't go so far as to ask what the bridal party is wearing. I tend to wear dresses from JCrew so avoiding the color thing is one way to make sure I don't have the same dress as the BMs :)
You'll look like a complete idiot if you wear anything that resembles the bridesmaids or like PP said, the colors on the save the dates. A friend of ours did this at my DH's Best Friends wedding 2 years ago. She stuck out like a sore thumb, and when we entered the church for the ceremony, the church coordinator asked her if the other attendants were following her in. We were all mortified!

...do you avoid wearing the same color as the wedding party? Would it matter if their dresses were long and yours was short? Do you avoid it if you happen to know, but don't bother to seek out the info if you don't already know?
