@starfish0116:  I stopped taking BCP probably about 9-10 months before we started trying. We had always discussed trying in the fall after our first anniversary as the timing worked out for my coaching etc.

I went to see my doctor a month or two before we started TTC to discuss any health concerns and to ensure that everything was in line. I also wanted to discuss current medications and exercise practice before I was pregnant to know what was and wasn’t acceptible.

I talked to my doctor about it briefly when I had my Mirena taken out. I was planning to chart to TTA for a while, but we talked about prenatal vitamins and sort of general stuff. Now that we’re going to start TTC soon (it’s been nearly a year), I’m not making any additional appointments. I did have a general physical/blood panel done a few months ago, but again, didn’t really have anything to do with TTC.

I did a consult with them to at least ask about getting my IUD removed and what I should start doing, etc. and they advised that I wait to get my IUD taken out until my migraines were controlled.  Except that I can’t take anything for them really during pregnancy so I just decided oh well and had them take it out.

ETA: I did also have to have blood drawn to check my thyroid levels because I have hypothyroidism so they wanted to make sure I didn’t need to adjust my meds.

@starfish0116:  I mentioned it at my last yearly obgyn appointment in july that we were going to start trying later in the year. She asked if I was planning on using opk and told me about temping and wished me luck. I don’t have any medical issues and wasn’t on any meds other than bcp so I don’t think there was much else to discuss.

I did only because I already needed to go to my doctor for something else. I was almost at the end of my bc pack so I figured I would ask while I was there if I should just stop taking them or finish my pack and what to do from there. She advised me to just finish my pack, to start taking a multi vitamin for the folic acid, and that we could start trying right away. I had been on the pill for about 10yrs. and we have been trying for about 5 months now and no luck yet! It’s starting to get a little depressing at this point cause we both want it so bad! I seem to be pretty regular at this point with my cycles and everything, I’m just really hoping that being on the pill for that long isn’t whats keeping us from conceiving!

I was in for my yearly in April and mentioned we wanted to maybe start trying in the summer. She told me to have sex every third day and to call them when I got pregnant to schedule an 8 week appointment. That was it.

@blondiegirl:  It took us 5 months and I hadn’t been on the pill. I felt the same way, I was sad and nervous about why it was taking so long- just needed to be patient and keep doin’ it. Hang in there, you’ll more than  likely get a BFP in the next couple of cyles!

@starfish0116:  I did.  Mostly because I have a family history of fibroids, and had an ovarian cyst (now gone) a few years back.  I wanted to make sure that these wouldn’t be an issue for us. She sent me for a pelvic exam just to be safe (basically an ultrasound plus a transvaginal ultrasound). My ovaries were fine, but they did find a very small fibroid in my uterus.  My doctor said the fibroid wouldn’t be an issue.

Other then that, my Dr just advised me to take prenatals. We used condoms as Birth control so didn’t have to wait for my body to regulate before trying or anything. We started TTC in October, and got pregnant our first cycle! We are due in July =)

It wouldn’t hurt to have a chat with your Doc. Good luck TTC!

I happen to have an appt with my primary care, so I told her (I didn’t have a OB at the time), but she just said to stop taking BC whenever I was ready and start taking vitamins.  There’s not much they do to “help” or anything.

No, I just stopped my BCP.  I actually had my annual obgyn appointment at about 4-5 weeks pregnant (without my knowing) and they did my normal yearly exam and couldn’t even tell I was pregnant.  I did get a new doctor after I found out as my other one was about an hour drive away.

I had no reason to consult my doctor though.  If had specific concerns or medical issues I might have but I had no reason.
