When you were wee, where did you think babies came from?

@iarebridezilla:  I’m not sure where I came up with the idea, but I think I was about 4 and I asked my mom, “So, Mommy, does your baby just make in your belly while you’re growing up?” I think she said, “No, it takes a mommy and a daddy who love each other very much.” And that was all the explanation I got until SexEd.

Someone went and bought me a children’s book “Where do babies come from” when I was really little. I have always been a voracious reader and I learned to read REALLY REALLY young. And I have no clue who got me the book because my parents divorced when I was three, and didnt remarry until I was 6.5/7… so its not like I was getting a new baby brother or sister when they bought it for me!

So I read the book and was “Oh. Weird. Whatever.”

As soon as my mom and stepdad got married however, they started trying for a baby, and they told me. And when it didnt happen within like, two months, I was like ‘CMON GUYS”.

In fact, I was so concerned, I told my stepdad he could borrow my book…. I was just thinking he might need some illustrated instructions! He thanked me but informed me that he could, in fact, take care of it lol.

My little brother FINALLY came to us on the fourth of july in 1997! And now he’s a stinky, awkwardly adorable, moody 16 year old boy! Oh my!!!

I had never thought about HOW babies were made when I was little, but I thought they came out of the mommys belly button. I remember first finding out (from a friend at school) in about grade 2 that you had to have sex to have a baby, and I remember crying and having nightmares because knew I wanted babies when I was older but I did NOT want to have sex. Lol !

@iarebridezilla:  It wasn’t even a thought in my mind lol. I didn’t care about babies and wasn’t curious at all.

I’m the youngest of my 13 cousins, so babies weren’t really a thing when I was little. However I had some strange ideas about death. When our dog Mickey died I thought God was going to come down and get him in a helicopter…I have no idea where I came up with that, but I was convinced that helicopters were the way to get to heaven.

@iarebridezilla: I was also told you to wish for it and thought there was a special space in the belly and giving birth would be a cesarean, but in my 4 yr old speak, your belly would simply be cut.

@iarebridezilla:  I don’t plan on having kids but I am godmother to my best friend’s daughter. I have a feeling that she is going to decide that The Talk falls under Godmother’s duties.

I’m pretty sure at some point I though my mom ate the baby and it was growing in her belly like some kind of demon watermelon seed. Then, when it was time to be born, the mommy had a huge poop and *poof* baby!  I was going through a wicked anti-pooping phase (about 2ish and wanted nothing to do with pooping in the toilet) when my mom told me I was getting a baby brother. Let’s just say that “Everybody Poops” book came out about 20 years too late for my rententive self. I’m pretty sure my mom lied to me about babies for the sole reason to get me comfortable shitting into a toilet.

I can’t remember ever wondering where babies came from. I’m the youngest so I never really saw/noticed pregnant women as a child. I was round 11 when one of my cousins was born and I honestly thought nothing of it. One day my cousin was pregnant and the next I had another (second) cousin. Maybe I was a silly kid and actually believed in the stork when I was really little but I don’t remember ever asking specifically.
