@ivorybunny: you need to have a long talk with her. explain to her that this is important to you, and you would really love for her to be there for you. personally, i would also tell her that if she can’t bare dressing up in a burlesque (or maybe even victorian, if she’d feel more comfortable?) outfit for ONE day, that you may have to look elsewhere. make sure you let her know how hurt you are by all of this. don’t start throwing it in her face that you were always there for her, that will just become a contest of “who’s the better friend.” let her know that her friendship is VERY important to you, and ask her why she is really that opposed to dressing up. if it’s honestly just because she hasn’t done it since she was 5 and feels “childish,” then she’s being quite selfish, imo.

Has she seen any of the dresses/costumes that you’re considering?

I mean 1. burlesque/gothic is not your 5-year-old halloween costume, and 2. aren’t bridesmaid dresses always ugly in retrospect? ( I mean this in the nicest way.) She needs to get over it. Unfortunately, she’s going to need your help to get over it.

Can you show us dresses?

Ask her to step down.  She is supposed to wear whatever you want her to.  If you want her to wear a garbage bag she shuold wear a garbage bag.  Obviously she dosn’t want to be your bridesmaid.
