    Hi Bees!

I am a MD Bride and I wanted to start a thread that could possibly help me and others in the area. Sooooo When is your wedding? Where is it being held? Do you have a DoC? Who? Any other local vendors you care to share about or refer?

    I guess I'll start:

    When?:  September 8, 2012

Where?: The Walters Art Museum in Baltimore, MD. They have a GORGEOUS sculpture court where both the ceremony and reception will be held. The cocktail hour will take place in one of the galleries.

DoC?: Not yet and I am REALLY hoping for some referrals or advice.

Local Vendors?:  Music: DJ Parallax is a great local DJ with GREAT prices. His manager is a good friend of mine so PM me if you want his info and my photographer isn't local, but he is in the DMV often and does amazing work. Srcole Vision - www.scrolevision.com. I haven't booked him yet, but he is my top choice.

@lovekiss: I love your pictures. You bouquet was beautiful and unique. I have never been to Paper Source. Did you DIY your invites? Were they helpful?

@RhubarbPie: thank you! I knew I loved it, but I dragged my FI along for the ride to see it again (1st time for him.) He walked in and said he REFUSED to get married anywhere else. :o)

Hi!!! I see you're from Columbia, me too!!! Your venue looks so fantastic too. I'm getting married June 9, 2012 at Newton White Mansion.

One vendor you should talk to is Absolutely Perfect Catering. OMG their food is SO good. They have open houses in Jan, Feb, and March where you can try all the food/drink for free. You have to be "invited" so I would contact them in advance. It's worth it!

I have most of my vendors if you are curious about more! Also, I went to the Bridal Boutique off Snowden River Pwky for my dress, not sure if you are still looking for one.

    Happy planning!!!

@MrsDiddles: No, the invites were definitely not DIY. That would have been way too much pressure for me! Paper Source has their own line, as well as lines from Crane, Vera Wang, and others. The staff there were super friendly and I wouldn't hesitate to go back again. We chose a text-focused invitation suite and had it letterpressed.

@acebride: Be careful with that bridal shop. My hair stylist went there and had an awful experience. And their Wedding Wire reviews are often pretty bad. They have a reputation for screwing up orders and alterations.

Speaking of alterations, Sheryl Kelm Designs in Pasadena is wonderful. her work is fantastic and her rates are loads cheaper than you will find in any bridal shop. Plus, she's just a genuinely nice person.

And I forgot my caligrapher. Oh My Word Caligraphy in Columbia, MD. Collette did a wonderful job on our envelopes and our placecards.

@lovekiss: ooo thanks for the heads up! I got my dress from there and everything went fine (my consultant was actually awesome).

I am SUPER worried about alterations though. It seems most of their bad reviews are in the alterations dept. I dont think I'll need a ton of alterations, but I do want to do a unique bustle (all under so it looks like there is no train, a Bee did it on here, I just dont remember who).

Have any advice for who to go to for alterations?

@acebride: Sheryl Kelm is great for alterations.

    kelmdesigner@comcast.net

I also need to correct myself. My stylist had a good experience at Columbia Bridal Boutique. It was another salon that she disliked. So yeah, i don't want to give them bad press unless they deserved it. LOL

    Hi ::waving::

We live in DC but are getting married at Newton White Mansion in Mitchellville, MD.  I think I posted pics in another post.  Your venue is GORGEOUS!  Our DOC is Tabitha Roberts of Roberts and Co Events.  Her reviews are fantastic and her prices are reasonable.

As for a DJ and photographer, we haven't booked them yet!  Yes, we are slacking!!  ugh!  But can we get a pass??  We just moved into our first home last week!  Tongue out

Good luck to all of you with your planning!

    Hi!

Can I join! The knot is too quiet, I think this one would be more active!

We are getting married September 22, 2012!

These are all we got so far,

    St Matthew's Cathradal

    Willard Intercontinental

Tate Tullier Photography (he is an out of town friend but is a great deal for his quality vs DMV photograghers, including travel costs - no I dont' get a discount)

Hair - my stylist who works out of her home.

We're not sure if we will go with DJ Marc Wilner or DJ Carroll Higgins.

That's all I got so far.... not much!

I am curious of who your florists are, that's my last big vendor I need to figure out.

We live in NYC, but I am from MD, and we're getting married in Annapolis, at the Governor Calvery House. We still have a lot more to plan though. I don't have a dress, officiant, music, favors, hair and makeup or cake! Agghh, I have a lot to do after the holidays.

@redheadem: The Governor Calvert House is such a nice venue! Good choice. For make-up you should definitely contact Amber at Make-Up Memories. She is based in Annapolis and is amazing to work with. Her make-up skills are top notch, and she is so much fun to be around. She will make you feel like the most gorgeous woman on earth!

Hey all! I'm a DC bride too! June 9th seems like it can't come soon enough, yet also like its coming far too quickly.

    Ceremony: Epiphany Catholic Church, Georgetown

    Reception: The Fairmont

    Photographer: Kristen Gardner

Florist: Holly Chapple, hopeully, seems there was an issue with a lost deposit

Dress: Vera Wang, sample bought from Saks Jandel

Shoes: Vera Wang Lavender, one of the few that do beautiful flats that don't cost $500

Bridesmaids: Priscilla of Boston - ordered just before they went out of business, they came in just fine

Groom/Groomsmen - undecided, most likely MW

Invitations - most likely ordering from The Aerialist Press, based out of San Francisco. They do very affordable letterpress.

Hair/Makeup - my personal stylist also does weddings, Kristin Beaubien

I am wondering if any DC residents/brides have any ideas for rehearsal locations? Preferably close to the Georgetown area. I don't mind heading into Dupont or the Downtown area, but our hotel is in Georgetown/West End, and I don't want peopel to have to cab too far.

@CC2012:  My wedding was in the Colonade room at the Fairmont-- I love love loved it!!!

We had our rehersal dinner down the street from there at a place called Hudsons or something like that. THere is also a place near by called Georgia Brown's you could look up. THey were a little too country for my taste though.

My wedding is 12/15/2012.  We are in the process of lining up our vendors, but we are getting married at our synagouge in Rockville, MD.  We are also have  the reception there.

I am in the process of ordering my dress- Lazaro 3018.

The only vendor (other than location) we have so far is our photographer- Len DePas.  I am super excited because we are going to take engagement photos soon.

Our catere has to be Kosher so that really limits our choices.

Oh, I love this thread!  It's nice to see people from my area.  We are from VA (and I will always consider that home), family is all in DC and currently we live in NJ while I'm in grad school.  We knew we wanted to get married at a winery, so we looked all over NOVA but ended up choosing one in Charlottesville.

    When?:  September 15, 2012

Where?: Keswick Vineyards.  I can't wait - I started crying when we took the tour, so I knew it was the place for us!

Local Vendors?:  Most of my vendors are from C-ville, except my photographer who I have to mention, because he is beyond amazing.  He's in NOVA, and his name is Ken Pak.  I loved him before I got his prices and thought for sure I wouldn't be able to afford him, but was shocked at how reasonable his prices were!  I'm very excited about him...and everything else, for that matter!

Hi all! I'm a Baltimore bride :) The pictures of the Walters up there are GORGEOUS! We actually picked our venue before we had a firm handle on our budget :(. We'll be getting married in the Intercontinental Harbor Court. Had we known how much the MIL (who is too nice..) would be planning to give us, we probably could have done something at a similar venue to the Walters, but as it is we're super thrilled with Harbor Court. Here's a list of our other vendors:

    • Photography: Daniel Bostwick (out of DE, but super affordable)
    • Flowers: I'm DIY'ing them out of fabric
    • Invites: DIY
    • Cake: Baltimore Cakery
    • DJ: Dancemasters Entertainment
    • Tux: Tuxedo House. They carry all of the tuxes they rent! It's amazing!
    • Food/beverage/DoC: all through the venue
    • Rehearsal dinner: TBD, but perhaps BistroRx in Patterson Park

    Best of luck planning everyone!

AutumnElegance    September 22, 2012   Hawaii, wedding in Maryland

Hi all! I live in Hawaii but my wedding will be right outside Gaithersburg, at the Lodge at Little Seneca Creek, on Sept 22. Weird, I know, to be planning a DC wedding from Hawaii, but FI and I lived there for years and all our friends and most of our family is there. Anyway, does anyone have any good rehersal dinner places? Preferrably somewhere in Maryland (Bethesda, Chevy Chase) or NW DC (Friendship Heights, Cleveland Park). I need space for 40ish people and am hoping to find somewhere Metro accesible. Any suggestions welcomed, and glad to see so many DMV brides! I'll definitely add vendor recommendations and reviews here after our wedding.

I am also a soon-to-be Maryland bride! I haven't done a lot of planning yet, as I've been very busy finishing grad school, but here's what we have so far!

Date: January 19th, 2013 (I'm probably the oddball here in regards to date, but I LOVE winter!)

Ceremony/Reception Location: Tidewater Inn in Easton, MD (it's a little far from where my current location is, but my fiance and I loved it the first time we stepped into the lobby!)

Dress: really close to having one picked out, but I'm likely going to be purchasing it from The Bridal Boutique in Columbia, as they've been very generous in giving me back a portion of my deposit on my first dress (yes, I'm a two-dress bride Frown).

Colors/Theme: We're still working on this, but because the ballroom where the ceremony/reception will be taking place, we're thinking periwinkle, cream, silver/pewter, black (though I'm more of a fan of a simple dark blue and silver color scheme).

Officiant: Not official yet, but we are planning to book with Rev. Michael Feehley. Super nice, and very affordable!

Food/Beverage: This is provided from Tidewater

Still in the process of picking invitations, bridesmaid dresses, tuxes, photographer, DJ, etc, but I'm hoping that we'll have most of this stuff picked out soon!

So excited to see so many other DMV brides! Smile
