August 2010 bride here and I would love to have some other local brides to chat with.
~October
Here I am! I would love to chat! Who are your vendors? Where are you having it?
Since I'm still in the beginning stage. I've booked the ceremony at Harbor Cove Beach, at the Ventura Marina and i am having my reception at Epic Ventura www.epicventura.com
I have two caterers that i really want to use but that is so not in the budget
I found my rental guy Bermudez Rentals they're awesome
Looking for a photography
A DJ that knows what he is doing and not inching out the door when his time is up.
I think I found a great florist in Dana from DBcreativity.com but we will have to see my mock-ups
Everything else I'm kinda stuck........
Hey Girl!
We hired Coastal Entertainment Group for DJ & lighting. Don't have the number on hand but the web is www.cegevents.com.
Good Luck!! :-)
I'm another Ventura/SB bride! I HIGHLY recommend Raya Carlisle photography. Here's her site.
We are also using Shell's Petals in Ventura for our flowers.
Hey I'm a Ventura/SB Bride (actually Ojai, but close enough)!
Our venue is the Acacia Mansion acaciamansion.com. Getting really excited but still have a lot of vendors to book! Anyone have caterers they recommend??
Thanks!
Our Ventura County venue had a contracted caterer, but I hear Pure Joy Catering is good. www.purejoycatering.com. They're in SB.
Also, I can't say enough good things about Gavin Roy of SBDJ's. They are not cheesy at all and went above and beyond for us. Great experience!
We also had a fantastic acoustic guitarist for our ceremony/cocktail hour: Jason Sulkin. He did an absolutely wonderful job! He has a lot of other good reviews on project wedding as well.
Yay for the Ventura County brides!
Hey Goodbuddy,
I have Jason Sulkin on my list as someone to get in contact with. Does he sing or just play the guitar?
OctoberSky,
Jason played the acoustic guitar for our ceremony and our cocktail hour. I don't think sings, but you could ask. I do know he will learn a song for you for a small fee if you give him enough time. Oh, and check out his samples on his website!
He was really great. Mellow, but professional....the perfect combo for us!
I've just started the planning for hopefully a September or October wedding for around 100 in SB. Looking for a private estate any thoughts?
One of my friends recommend Jason also. At this point location and coordinator are my focus!
Hmmm...not sure about the private SB estates. I think Rebecca Stone (duet weddings) knows a lot about that area. She may be able to help! But I definitely recommend Jason! He was wonderful!! Hope you have a gorgeous day!
I am a Ventura County Bride, my event will be in Malibu at Cal Amigos. Any suggestions on good Florists in this area? I looked into Coastal Entertainment too, and I ended up booking them for our wedding, thank for the tip Kloe. Anybody going to the wedding Faire tomorrow at Westlake Hyatt?
Hi Ladies!
I'm getting married in Westlake Village and I have a great flower recommendation.
Linda Harley - she does many Westlake weddings out of her house. One of her daughters is a wedding coordinator at the Four Seasons so Linda specializes in all types of weddings.
Nice to meet you all!
We're doing wedding and reception at Stow House in Goleta. Basically, that's all I have for now!
@goodbuddy I worked for pure joy catering in college! The food is really good and the staff is always very proffesional!
July,
Cool job! :)
Our venue came with a caterer, who was (lucky for us) great! But in my initial research on venues, I read so many good things about Pure Joy. I would have totally checked them out in person if we ended up in a different venue.
Hey fellow VC/SB brides! We are getting married at the Hummingbird Nest Ranch in Simi Valley! I never thought I would be getting married in Simi, but this location is the MOST beautiful place we saw. I grew up in Ojai and always thought I would get married there. Problem is we are having 300+ guest list (ridiculous, I know) and that didn't leave us with many option (Ojai valley inn is beautiful but $$$$). If you are looking for a great DJ, my sister used Jason from http://www.elegantevententertainment.com/. We would have used him in an instant if he wasn't already booked.
Hi MzMarzipan!
I love the Hummingbird Nest I saw some fabulous pics of that place and it will be fabulous. Thanks for the DJ referral I'm sure someone on here will put it to good use.

I'm getting married October 10th at the University Club in Santa Barbara. Our venue includes catering and so far we've booked our DJ (Music by Bonnie), DOC (Kelly Clark) and photog (Kristen Grinnell). HOpefully close to booking a cake, florist, officiant and linens.
Anyone have a recommendation for an officiant in SB??
I know tons about that area. I got married in Santa Barbara. Send me an email if you need any referrals. Happy planning.
I'm getting married this November in Santa Barbara. Our ceremony will be in the Sunken Garden at the Courthouse and our reception will be at the Cabrillo Arts Pavilion. My caterer and photographer are both from LA. Looking for a DJ so these recommendations are great!
I'm getting hitched in SB on October 9th 2010 @ the Courthouse Sunken Garden w/ the reception @ Arts & Letters Cafe. So far I've got most of my vendors booked, but I still need cake & makeup. We're using SBDJs and I've been really impressed with they way Gavin Roy runs that business.
@ Miss Brown Bear : We're ceremony location twins! Any thoughts on how to handle the rule against amplified sound at the Courthouse? I'm trying to find a way to get around it and am hoping to get some info from brides who get married there this spring/summer.
Hey sbbride! So nice to hear from someone else that is getting married at the Sunken Garden! I've been worried about the amplified sound thing too. We're having around 100 guests and I'm so worried that they won't be able to hear anything. Although traffic noise has never been bad when I've been there. What are you thinking of doing?
I think I'll look into SBDJs...
I've got around 100 guests too with the exact same concern! Street noise doesn't seem to be a problem where we are planning on setting up, but I want all the guests to be able to hear us! You'd think they'd give a pass for the officiant, bride & groom at least. Fingers crossed everything magically works out.
I know! I posted a similar question on a Santa Barbara wedding board but haven't gotten any replies yet. If I hear of anything, I'll let you know.
What are you thinking of doing for ceremony decor since we can't stake anything into the ground? It's such a gorgeous location but so many restrictions!
We hired Bonnie from Music by Bonnie for our DJ....we had heard great things about her.
I think we're also going to hire Bella Dolce as our cake baker. And I'm going to look into TEAM Makeup for my makeup and hair.
We are getting married in SB on June 25th 2010 at the Courthouse Sunken Garden (fiesta stage with the reception at a nearby restaurant.
@ immigrant bride - The Stage area is beautiful! Congrats!
3 months for me and I'm getting excited, scared & a little stressed....... How are you guys doing?
hi all! i'm new to wedding bee and on the look-out for vendor recommendations in santa barbara! i'd love tips on hair/makeup folks, and great (but affordable) photographers.
our reception will be on the rooftop of the canary hotel. i haven't been there before (yikes!) but i think the pictures look fabulous. has anyone been there? eaten there? anything particularly good on the menu?
Hi Canary!
Yikes, your wedding is soon!? For photographer check out Jenharris.net. Don't know if she would be available, but worth a try.
Hi Canary,
TWO WEEKS UNTIL YOUR A MRS... Congrats
I hope you found your vendors....... If not Jenharris, I can totally reccomend Toby Tucker.,... He is amazing and a really sweet guy tobytucker.com
I wonder how many other Ventura/SB brides are on the board and want to try and do a meet up?
You're getting married at Harbor Cove??
Me and mine are planning on doing the same thing but we weren't sure if it was even allowed.
Did you have to talk to anyone about it or get a permit??
Yes it is and I'm so excited for it. We went thru the Harbor Port and was able to get a permit. Cost is around $250 for Permit and insurance for a ceremony of a 100 people.
Here is the contact:
Stacey Reed
E-mail: sreed@venturaharbor.com
Where are you thinking for your reception?
Oh wow that sounds great.
Now when you say you went through Harbor Port, do you mean they are doing it for you?
Because I know surfers knoll, they do a lot for you and I dont want that, I only want to make sure we can have the ceremony there.
=) What time of the day are you planning?
That beach is BEAUTIFUL late afternooon.
We're planning on having it at our church, Ventura Baptist.
No I mean I just called the Harbor Port district and they gave me Stacey's e-mail. She sent me the info about the costs. We are doing the ceremony ourselves no help from them other then the permit. Well we may borrow a few chairs since we are doing pillows on the beach as guest seats.
We are having a 4pm ceremony. Have you decided on colors and a theme yet? We are doing Tangerine, Green & Champagne bold, bright colors :)
How neat!!
We have about 150 people... so i think we might need to invest in some folding chairs.
We'll see.
I'm between pastel pink, blue, and white.
or brown, bamboo green, and white.
With a beach theme. Go figure.
Man! Thinking about your colors gives me such a nice image in my head.
I'm having to do a lot of the planning alone or with a friend though because my man got shipped across the country. Hopefully he;ll be back by the end of sumer and not have to stay the whole year.
=(
I know they rent folding chairs at the Harbor for a good price so you may look into that instead of tacking on more rental fees + delivery & set-up.
I love the bamboo green, white & brown those are definitely earthy beach colors.
Well I'm hear if you need anything. I totally understand the doing it alone. My MOH is in Long Beach and my bridesmaids are spread out too so I've been doing a bunch by myself. My coordinator has been awesome though in finding me O-mazing deals.
I'm glad to know someone else in Ventura is on here it's great having a local chat buddy. :)
I will be a Carpinteria bride in SEVENTEEN DAYS!!!
Marrying in a private residence overlooking the ocean in Rincon. Hoping for nice (non-gloomy) weather!
I have to totally recommend my photographer, he did a great job with our engagement photos! And you cannot beat the price for two photogs.... attached are links to his website and also to my facebook "engagement session" folder. I only posted 10 out of about 150 photos, mostly due to not enough time. By the way, I got a much better price than what is listed on the website, if anyone is interested, reply to me and we can chat :)
