Not once during the wedding planning did I think about actually going anywhere besides home after the reception – until now. Part of the reason is our venue is literally around the corner – no transportation required. It takes 15 seconds to walk over from the front door of my building to the venue, LOL. Now home sounds a bit dreary.
Curious as to what others are doing after the end of the reception.

We are going back to our beach front villa (which is also our ceremony site) to party with our guests. Everyone is staying within walking distance so we are going to put on more drinks and party into the night 🙂

@CARA1978: We’re an “older” bride and groom — both 35 — and we own our own house together, so we’re just going home afterwards. Also, our venue (ceremony/reception) is 15 minutes from our house, so why spend the dough on a hotel room?

@CARA1978: my venue isn’t as close as yours it, but its 5 minutes driving, and I plan on going home. LoL Just because I can’t picture going out after in my wedding dress, and even if i did have something to change into afterward, I just can’t. I know I will be tired from the entire day!

@leenh78: I’m 34 and he’s 18 years older, plus this is your second marriage so I guess the whole “honeymoon suite” thing didn’t come up in our minds. It’s still an option (definitely not too late) but that is a lot of money, LOL.

We had an afterparty at the hotel bar, which was a separate location than our venue but close (5 mins away). It was nice to unwind and have a couple more drinks with our wedding party and closest friends.

We’re going straight home. We have dog children to care for!

@CARA1978: We’re staying at the hotel. Our reception will end as late as 3am (we have exclusive use of the hotel so have no cut-off time, and we like to party, as do a fair few of our guests), so it’ll just be straight up to bed. We’re also staying the night after so that we actually get chance to enjoy some ‘us’ time and the beautiful honeymoon suite! 😉

We are having an after party at a bar next door to the venue and then heading back to the hotel where everyone is staying.

I’m surprised that home was so popular, but DH and I got married in our home town which was different from home.
Our wedding included a free hotel suite for us.

We’re going to a hotel… Our venue is about 45 minutes from our house and we both want to drink so we’re just going to walk across the street to a hotel when it’s all over! 🙂

- Wedding: November 2012 - Oak Tree Manor
Our wedding was an hour from home, so we spent the night in a hotel. In your case though I’d totally go home and light some candles and have a romantic night there – and save the $$$ for your honeymoon!
