depends on what you guys want to do..
do you like hiking, biking, kayaking, camping, etc?
or would you rather be on a beach doing nothing?
want to go on a cruise??
is there a city that you've always wanted to visit??
given the dollar versus euro - i'd do a domestic honeymmoon, unless you have the budget for going to europe...
our first honeymoon - we're going to oahu and the big island of hawaii
second honeymoon - ideas so far - thailand, mexico, or back to hawaii - this time maui and kaui...
We're thinking of doing Lake Tahoe or the Grand Canyon - a mix of outdoorsy stuff and spa-like relaxation. I'd also love to go to Kauai (I think that's how it's spelled!) but the FI is worried there's not enough there, hiking-wise...
If you do go to the Grand Canyon, I suggest staying in Sedona Arizona. My Fiance took me there for our engagement weekend. It's beautiful and relaxing. We stayed at a spa and hiked a couple days- and also went to the Grand Canyon.
Lake Tahoe probably has more of a variety of things to do, and is beautiful in a different way. Kauai is GORGEOUS. There is hiking and the beach and a ton to do. It's probably the priciest, but well worth it.
Depends on the time of year you want to go somewhere. What I did was call a travel agent (took me 3 tryes to find someone that was bright enough to understand what I wanted from her....but in the end it's all good)
I gave them a criteria :
We wanted all inclusive, some where tropical,
ocean view,
NO KIDS,
adults/coupls only
and we didn't want to spend 11-16 hours traveling to get there.
Also I asked them to cut out anywhere that was having it's rainy or hurricain season. The results we're limited as I expected but we're getting exactly what we want.
I think figuring out what you want and then calling an agent is a good way to start. You're not required to work with them, in fact I considered booking with out because she's moving at the pace of an ant in syrup at the moment, but we want to have the secuirty of the transportation moving us around instead of finding our own in another country....
We're going to The Excellance Riveara Cancu - not as exotic as we wanted for our honey moon but the price is great and we are going for 10 days!
Good Luck!
We're going to Cozomel to an all inclusive resort, great price for what we get.!!
amysue....Kauai is a FANTASTIC honeymoon destination for outdoor-loving couples. My husband and I went there and had so much fun. We hiiked, biked, kayaked, et. AND...Waimea Canyon is on the west side of the island with tons of hiking and is known as the "Grand Canyon of Hawaii."
We are going to do ten days in Aspen at the Hotel Jerome. We have both lived in Colorado, although he has never been to Aspen. The hotel is very elegant, and there are a lot of fabulous restaurants all within walking distance. We figure with ten days we can ski all we want and also sleep late and lay around the hotel and just enjoy each other. Aspen is beautiful anytime of year but is really gorgeous in the snow.
Since our honeymoon will about about six months after the wedding, we are going straight from the reception to Walla Walla for a long weekend at the Marcus Whitman, also a fabulously elegant old hotel. We'll go wine tasting and just hang out and catch our breath before going home to get his kids ready to go off to college this fall.
We are going to Victoria, British Columbia on Vancouver Island. It's supposed to be a beautiful place with as much or as little to do as you prefer. There is hiking, biking, canoeing, whale watching, and some beautiful famous gardens. We are also going to take the ferry over to the city of Vancouver to spend one night. This is very us and not a really long flight for us at all.
Like Jet80, we are going to do some combination of Seattle, Victoria, British Columbia & Vancouver. We scrapped our Italy plans as the euro continues to dominate the dollar. We were thinking about Australia/New Zealand as the dollar is very strong there but decided that we don't want to fly that far.
we went to curacao (between aruba and bonaire) to the avila beach hotel. it was beautiful and relaxing. because it's a dutch island there were very few american tourists so it really felt like we'd gone somewhere exotic. and we went in september -- there hasn't been a hurricane on curacao in over 40 years, so it's quite safe i think.
We are going to Tokyo for 9 days/8 nights. FI and I are Japanophiles & have always wanted to go, so we figured that we might as well make our honeymoon that once-in-a-lifetime trip. :)
we havent chosen a place yet.. but we are considering
a. new zealand
b. australia
c. fiji
what i really want to do is rent a car starting at the plymouth colony and drive all over to visit all of the historical landmarks on the east coast but the fiance said NO.
LOL archicalgal. That sounds like my kind of honeymoon too!! I love history.
We're up in the air as well on a destination. We wanted South Africa or Bali but flights to way expensive. Now we're thinking Belize or Panama, a little closer to home!
