I'd also love to find out where others are looking. I'm in suburban MD, and was looking at McGuinty's Tavern in Silver Spring. I haven't done more than think about contacting them yet, but I think they're more reasonable. We're also hoping to stay around $40 pp.
I think we are going to look into Maggiano's. We really enjoy going there for a nice dinner every once in awhile. I know that they do special events but I haven't looked into how they are done. I do know that when we go for dinner they have a "family style" option which is $25 per person and you get to choose something like 2 salads, 2 appetizers, 2 entrees, 3 sides and 2 desserts (I might be wrong with the amount of dishes, but it gives you an idea of the food you get) and it's all you can eat so everyone just shares the food that is brought to the table. I imagine that when they do special events, they have the "famly style" meal option which would be a really great, inexpensive way to do a rehearshal dinner! There's a location in D.C. and in Tyson's.
I am having it at my mom's house with pizza, wings, and beer. This way all the family can come including out of town guests. It is going to be on the Thursday before so that way people can have as much fun as they would like.
We are having ours at Clyde's Willow Creek in Ashburn, Virginia. I am getting married in Ashburn, and there aren't too many resturants there that can accomodate large parties so this was the best fit, plus it's a great resturant.
We're going to Lebanese Taverna in Bethesda, but there are private rooms in Pentagon Row as well. They worked out to be very inexpensive, especially because we only have about 25 people, so renting a HUGE private room was prohibitively expensive.
We haven't gotten into all the specifics yet, but I think we might do Golden Corral for our rehearsal dinner. Sure, we can't have alcohol, but I don't think that will make a huge difference. Its inexpensive, people can eat as much as they want for a fixed cost, and as long as we give them notice and don't do it during "rush time" we can have a space reserved for our party. I think this is the best option for our budget, and to make sure we can accomodate the amount of people we need. JenineD, I love your idea, I wish we had a house big enough to accomodate everyone so we could do that!
I also think Maggiano's would be a great idea. It's really nice and usually only about $25-30 per person when the food is preordered. Recently went to a going-away party at the one in Tyson's and everything was great (food, private room, service).
We looked at a number of places in Arlington for ours:
-Eventide
-Restaurant 3
-Sette Bello
-La Tasca
We're having dinner for 30-ish and then inviting the out of towners to join us for drinks after so we needed a space that could be flexible and also meet our budget.
We actually found Sette Bello and La Tasca to be the best values. We ended up going with La Tasca because they offered the most flexibility/has te best space to accomodate extra people joining us after dinner.
We are getting married at Top of the Town in October and are doing our rehearsal dinner at Front Page in Ballston. We get the whole back atrium to ourself, the event coordinator is great to work with and you can pick from a selection of menus. We looked all over Arlington and had no luck (we have a big attendee list) or it was really expensive 10k minimum. Highly recomment Front Page!

I'm getting married at the end of July at Top of the Town in Arlington, VA. I'm having trouble finding a good spot to have our rehersal dinner. Nothing too fancy, but I'd like it to have some charm. I'm looking for either an Italian or American restaurant. We looked at many places in Old Town, and feel in love with Landini Brothers. However, it was going to cost a minimum of $65 for dinner, excluding alcohol and gratuity! We are looking to stay around $40 pp and the most important thing for us is privacy. Please share where you will be having your rehersal dinner. Thank you!
