Hi mlindsey,
I went to a wedding last summer and the bride's fabulous dress was custom made by:
Andrew Kim @ Clio, 310-360-0956
Granted her wedding was in Beverly Hills and I don't know the cost of her dress (the wedding was grandiose all the way, absolutely amazing), but she did have rave reviews about Andrew. From what I understand he has dresses in his shop to try on and is very eash going and willing to work with whatever style the bride has in mind (doesn't push his own ides on the bride). She thought his base price started around $2000, but don't quote us on that
.
Hope this helps and good luck! ![]()
Check out www.yelp.com. Read some reviews and then go to check them out. Try asking smaller local bridal boutiques/stores for any recommendations they may have.
Check out www.projectwedding.com for reviews. The OC knot girls swear by Janet Brunton and Mahtab.
Thank you all for your suggestions. It's a step in the right direction...it's a step in any DIRECTION! I will be checking into all of them.![]()
I have been searching for seamstresses as well! I'm restyling my mom's wedding gown for a more updated look, so finding the right one is important to me!!
I've been speaking with Janet Bruton, and she's a sweetheart!! I met with Mahtab also...that was okay.
I've just been referred to Janet Domino (www.janetdomino.com) who is located by LAX. She specializes in making gowns from scratch. I'll be meeting with her too.
If you've got some serious cash and patience (to sit in traffic), Roxie Poynor of Margaret's Cleaners in San Diego also customizes gowns, but prices start steep!!
If you found any great ones on the way, please share!!

Does anyone know of a good seamstress? I am getting married in March and sadly, even though my bridesmaids have theirs, I am still sans dress. I guess I'm working backwards. I ordered a dress online, hated it, and sent it back. When I went into David's Bridal with my bridesmaids, I tried on dresses, and wasn't really happy with what I saw, on top of the fact that they were all so heavy. I was looking on Kleinfelds website (I guess for inspiration) and saw a Carol Peretz and fell in love with it, but:
I need to find a good seamstress that can get as close to the style of the dress as possible. If anyone knows of one, please, help!
