I would stick with ribbon under 1/2 inch. I love double faced satin on just about anything! 
Believe it or not, I found cheap ribbon at Michael's. It was marked down to something like $0.25/spool. If you have one local and are up for a trip to the store, you should check them out, you may be suprised about what you can find.

if anyone needs some pale green/sage ribbon, i have tons of leftover spools in a variety of widths (martha stewart and michael's brands)
Hi, I'm doing 6x6" pocket folder invites, and I used 7/8" Grosgrain ribbon to wrap around the outside. I think I used about 13" for each invite. I bought from www.finerribbon.com, since I'm in Canada. They shipped it the same day I ordered. I also bought some other ribbon for the programs, favours and decorating. to save on shipping.
I used satin ribbon for my pocketfold invites, and the cheapest double-faced satin ribbon I could find was at http://www.ribbonfactory.com.
I second Michaels, and if you have one in your area, check Joann Fabrics & craft store www.joann.com

Hello ladies! I am going to DIY my own invitations and I wanted to know if you can direct me to a website where I can find inexpensive ribbon at a discount price.
Also, what size ribbon do you suggest for a pocketfold that is a 6 1/2 x 6/12 size? And what kind of ribbon, satin, grosgrain? My pocket folds are pink and my invitation wording is green.
I know the Wedding Bees are the only ones that can help me! THANKS!
