Yup! I did a huge number of price comparisons, and I bought them on Ebay!! They had the best prices of all, and I asked for a shipping discount because I bought A LOT of them, and they gave me a great deal!!! I forget who I bought from though-it was a "store".
I'm getting mine from www.paperlanternstore.com. They have the best prices I've found (if you're getting a bunch, be sure to use the coupon code fship for free shipping! Only works on orders over $100.)
I emailed them with a couple of questions and got really quick and helpful responses. The color I wanted to order was out of stock, and they offered to email me when they came back in (which they did.) I also received my huge order within like 3 days of ordering - I was really pleased with my experience w/ them.
I ordered mine from Ebay also. I bought 60 lanterns ranging in size from 10" to 16" in orange and fuschia for $US 120
I literally an hour ago just purchased my green paper lanterns from AsianIdeas.com. They are based in Pennsylvania but shipping was really cheap. I tried the paperlanternstore.com but they were out of 3 different greens i needed.. my choice ended up being cheaper any way because they are having a huge sale!
I, like farmersdaughter, used the Paper Lantern Store, although I did not use a free shipping coupon, sadly! They were great, easy, cheap, etc...Highly recommend 'em!
if you have a chinatown near you, i would suggest trying there first. i know the one near me is cheaper than the places that I've seen online, plus you wont have any shipping charges. Good Luck!!
Or buy them used. Save a tree :) Some of my used ones even have small tears in them - honestly for most venues the ceiling is so high up you won't even see the tear.
I bought my paper lanterns from jadetime.com. They had the best prices I've found. I used the 24", 20", and 16" lanterns for my wedding last month and jadetime.com had the cheapest prices. The quality of their lanterns are great, too. By the way...their 8" lanterns are less than 0.85 each. I also used the lanterns to line the aisle. It turned out great. Good luck.
The least expensive ones we found were at Paper Lantern Store and Asian Ideas.

Somebody said Dollar Tree, but online I only find the Halloween ones. The bee who mentioned it got them at the store itself, for...of course...$1 each.

I found some on orientaltrading.com They've got pretty great prices on their items, are BBB accredited, and seemed to have some pretty good reviews on things.
I have to retract my first and agree more with @2dbride Asain Ideas has had great prices and is another BBB accredited site! I'm real weird when it comes to on-line so I'd stay with an accredited site ;)
asian ideas is awesome! they are currently having a sale on some lanterns. i just ordered from them and the whole transaction was great! the lanterns arrived in the mail yesterday (i ordered 60 various sizes) and are perfect! :) i posted a 10% coupon last night (just search for it on this site) that i hope someone can use. it expires on 10/31/10 and it's good for orders over $50.
I am buying from jadetime.com, they have excellent quality and prices on their stuff, and their customer service is top notch!
