A seller on etsy - here's her listing for ivory netting. I think this listing is for 1 yard @ 12" wide and it's a great price - I think like $8.00 a yard.

And one yard is more than enough for you to play around with.
I'm going to buy mine from a small local shop in St. Paul; could you check if there are locally owned fabric stores near you? I haven't had luck with Jo Ann's or other chain fabric stores either for this type of netting.
Supposedly French netting is nicer than Russian, but I honestly couldn't tell you if one can notice a difference, because I've never compared the two in real life: http://madebymaryann.blogspot.com/2008_04_01_archive.html
I found a really great site http://www.judithm.com/ . It's a millinery supply store, I was able to purchase 2 yards of netting and combs for less than $20.
Super old post, but since a few people have PMed me to ask where I was going to buy it in St Paul - I think at Treadle Yard Goods. I ended up buying one on Etsy instead, and was quite pleased with it: http://www.etsy.com/listing/60692918/birdcage-veil-free-us-shipping-french

Sorry, there are no users yet.
I found some places online, one has the most expensive shipping I ever saw, one requires a minimum $30 purchase, and another one is realllly expensive.
I already checked JoAnns, and they don't sell what I want. Did anyone else make their birdcage veil? Where did you buy the fabric?
