Now that I have started ring shopping, I have stumbled across some online places that seem to sell at wholesale prices (correct me if I'm wrong) like bluenile.com and goodoldgold.com. Besides these two very popular sites, what are some other trusted places that your FI bought from (both physical store and online)? Also, were they all GIA ceritified diamonds?
My e-ring setting was from Eternity Diamonds, and the diamond from Good Old Gold.
My wedding band is from ID Jewelry.
I highly suggest checking out Pricescope, especially the forums. If they recommend an online store, it's good!
Diamond was purchased off of Blue Nile and the setting was custom done at a local jeweler.
FH bought the stones at the International Gem and Jewlery Sale when it came through Houston last year. Then worked with a local independant jewler to design the ring.
Diamond is certified and purchased from a local (but larger) jeweler here in the city. I appreciated that he supported local business (consider I own a small business here too!), plus he got WAY more diamond, with a higher quality, than the comps at other stores he shopped.
We used a local jeweler. My fiance's been going to the same jeweler throughout our relationship. She takes care of us and I don't think I'd want to go elsewhere as a result. :)
He went bought the ring from Blue Nile and I couldn't have been happier. The ring sparkles so much, I get compliments everyday.
Helzburg for me, too :). I looked at a ton of jewelry stores, but Helzburg had the ring I fell in love with.
My fiance got mine from Knox Jewelers out of MN but he did it all through email.
My husband did a ton of research prior to buying my ering, including online and local retailers alike (Zales, Jared, Kays, etc etc) and ended up getting my ering from the family jeweler.
With our wedding bands we actually got them from thefacetscollections which is online but based in NYC. For our platinum bands (mine with 11 diamonds) they were the cheapest out of all the zales, jareds, kays, blue nile (expensive!!!) etc etc.
And yes all my diamonds are GIA certified, a must in my book.
FYI I found TheFacetsCollection via PriceScope which was a huge source of info when searching for better prices!!!
My stone and setting came from Ben Bridge. I don't think my ring is certified or anything. It was on sale due to an inclusion, the cheap price was what sold us.
Diamonds Direct in Raleigh, NC. Love that place although I had never been there until after he proposed and we went in to perfect the sizing. I'm sure we'll buy our bands from there too!
we went to shane co. every jewler i went to only had pink rubies and shane co let me pick out my setting and stone and didnt cost an arm and a leg like every where else.
He got my engagement ring at a factory-direct store called the Jewelry Exchange and we got my wedding band at DeBeers :) My wedding band is intricate so I will be wearing my engagement ring on my right hand...I just saw it on a woman tonight when I was out at dinner and I was practically drooling. I can't wait to wear it!
Mine is from Peoples Jewellers. I think it might be the Canadian version of Zales...
We got mine at a local jeweler. They were willing to make a custom e-ring (and later two custom wedding bands)
What I don't like about bluenile and other online retailers is you can't actually see the diamond in person. If you are getting a diamond that is SI clarity I would be careful because some SI diamonds have flaws that are visible to the eye and others do not. A local jeweler can help you with this and use their expertise to pick one for you. Just buying one online it is more difficult to know.
Fiance and I got ours online from Danfourth Diamond :)
@cr6zy: On that note; I think it's interesting that the sales associates at Shane Co don't get paid on commission! If I hadn't fallen in love with the ring at Jared's, I'd have gone there just because the shopping atmosphere seemed a little more laid back and their warranty/trade-in policy is better.
@FireflyT: That is a good point about Blue Nile, however, there are online vendors who will definitely let you all but hold and see the stone with your own eyes. Meaning, Good Old Gold for example, will show you as many photos as you want, magnified to show any inclusions, ASETs, etc, and will even make you videos of stones compared with others. Plus, every stone they put up in their inventory has been hand-selected and personally inspected by their staff, not to mention actually being in-house, which is just like you mentioned an advantage with a local jeweler. GOG isn't alone in this type of service, either.
FI got my stone and setting from GOG. :)
My FI actually got mine at Costco. Doesn't sound like the best place to buy jewelry, but they actually carry high quality at really good prices. Worth looking into :)
Tiffany :) He had considered Blue Nile but somehow we ended up at Tiffany one day, and we picked it out.
Diamond and setting were from Adiamor.com
I HIGHLY recommend them. Stones are GIA certified and prices are great.
Also, they are great about returns/repairs.
If you get the ring/diamond and don't like it, you can send it back for a 100% refund. They also re-size for free.
My engagement ring was his grandmothers, but my wedding band came from www.gemvara.com
For my first wedding, my ering was from Macy's and my wedding wrap was from Jared's.
