We’re doing black tie, and one of the mothers is a plus size… I’m not sure what size since I don’t want to ask because I know she’s self-conscious about her size, but she’s asked for my help finding a dress, and I’m not sure where to refer her to? If I had to guess I’d think she’s between a size 16-20, and I know she wants to cover her arms… any ideas? There seems to be very few stores with an actual selection of plus size formal wear she could try on. A custom order seems so risky… but if there are good online stores then maybe she could order a few to try on and then return the rest? What did you do? Any pics? Thanks!! 🙂

@waitingwonderland: The place where I got mine, was in PA, but I live in OR, so I did order on-line. But I felt okay ordering because they have a “brick and mortar” store. I got measured at my local drycleaner/seamstress place, and then called the store’s customer service. The gown was extremely well made!!! Unfortunately, you can’t return them, and they run very very small-so getting measured and checking in with customer service was great! I felt absolutely gorgeous for my daughter’s wedding, and my dress was a great price!!! Oops- they are http://www.keepmeinstitches.biz

Try any department store website- Dillards, Bloomingdales, Nordstrom, Belk, Macys, along with all of the traditional wedding shops- Davids, Alfred Angelo, etc. Tell her to look at colors, styles that she likes and go from there. Nordstrom does free shipping and returns if you don’t have one locally.
