I’m seriously thinking of having a wedding in Maui but want to spend <$15k for ceremony and reception for (probably) less than 50 guests. To achieve this, I need as much information and help as I can get online! but there is just too many options and hotels to start! I would love to hear about your stories for Maui DW and your cost structure!
Also is it more cost effective to go with a hotel package that includes a wedding coordinator OR just hire a wedding consultant/coordinator independantly and have them package the whole thing for you?

In my limited experience the idependent coordinators were cheaper. We used Enchanted Weddings of Maui and so far really like Lisa. Think about your venue first. Do you want to get married on the beach, then have the reception at a restaurant, or do the whole thing at a hotel? Your price range seems doable either way.

Me again!! I’ve been speaking to a wedding planner a bit but haven’t hired her. I have heard that independent planners charge about 18-20% of your entire wedding cost as their fee. The hotel ones don’t charge extra since they work for the hotel and you are havin gyour wedding there.
It seems like most independent ceremony packages are cheaper though, whereas the hotels are a bit more. But when you add on the reception and stuff, it can be easier/cheaper to do it all in the same place.

I’m not too sure what my friends budget was or how many guest she had.. I don’t think there was more then 100 people but she had her wedding in Maui recently the pictures were incredible. They rented a house and had their wedding there.

@shiney: I looked into this place! Those photos are absolutely amazing!!
I decided against it because you have to organize everything yourself, hiring separate caterers, rental companies, etc. Gorgeous though!

I thought about renting a plantation or mansion too, but I think I’d be too anxious about things going wrong that I’d want a coordinator to help me make sure there’s a backup plan in case a vendor cancels. or something…but I wonder if it’d be much cheaper to rent a place and just go with a few different vendors and trust they come? I don’t know..there’s too many options!!
