Just curious where you and the hubby or hubs-to-be met! And please share the story!
We met at a bar! I was out with a bunch of my friends and we kept making eye contact and smiling at each other. Finally, my girlfriend and I were paying our tab and he came up to "get another round" and ended up chatting with me the rest of the night! I never thought I'd meet the love of my life in a bar! haha!
We met at work. I got a job at my college bookstore the very first day I moved in as a freshman. My now-FI was one of the managers of the store. We spent a lot of time together at the store, and of all the managers, he was the one who spent the most time out on the floor with his employees. He was also the most relaxed and nice of all of them. We chatted during downtimes and became friends. I came to school still dating my bf from high school, but I eventually realized what a messy relationship that was and we broke up.
Around the same time, my now-FI announced that he would be leaving the bookstore soon to "get a real job." I had a serious crush on him by this time (and so, I would learn, did he on me), and even though he was somewhat older than I was, I worried that if I didn't speak up about it, he would leave and I would never see him again. I gave him a cute little "good luck" gift on my last day of work for the semester. Summer was coming, and much to my chagrin, I was about to go back home (300 miles away) for several weeks, but I took down his AIM screenname, and we started talking online every day while I was away. Halfway through the summer, I returned, and we started dating...and, two and a half years later, here we are. :-)
My FI knew me from work, but I hadn't noticed him. He saw me at a bar and basically confessed his love of me. I was absolutely flattered!!
In our high school cafeteria :)
I basically asked myself to his Junior Prom and we've been together ever since!
It's a huge joke between our group of friends that we met at a club. Neither of us are big for going out , but it was something he did with his boys and I did with my girls. I had been telling my Girls just that night that " you never go to Club ****** to meet a decent guy!" LOL
I picked three! Bar/Club/Party & School & Mutual Friend ...
We met at a college party through a mutual friend! :) He didnt go to my college but his best friend friend did and he was home on a break and he came to a party with her ... I wish I could say the rest is history, it took a little while for something to happen, but it was still how we "met"!
I went with school and other. We met playing ping-pong in our college UC. We both came down with our roommates, and he and I had a connection of sorts right off, tho nothing came of it for a while. My BF at the time was with me that day, and HATED my FH, for no real reason. Guess he was right tho! :) And the neat part is one of my roommates who played ping-pong that day is still dating one of my FH's roommates that was there. Now if we can get the other 4 of them hooked up... :)
We met at church. He had gone there his whole life, when I started coming with one of my friends around 8th grade. Since he's 3 years older, it definitely wasn't instant attraction. We started dating about 4 years later when I was 18 and he was 21!
We met on Match.com - I was surprised to see so many other ppl had met on line in the poll :)
I checked church, school, and relative...
Our moms met first... they were seated near each other in a "Freshman Commissioning Ceremony" thing when we started college, and his mom overheard mine wonder about local churches. His parents lived in town, so they offered to caravan with us the next day to their church. I met him that Sunday, didn't think much about it (my mom apparently thought that I should go for him, though), and then kept going to church with him and his family, had my Western Civ class with him, etc. I started hanging out at his house (at first with his kid sister, then as an excuse to be near him) and then he finally asked me if I wanted to go see a movie "as friends." I think two or three weeks later we finally sat down and he admitted that he'd really like to be more than a friend. :)
We met at a school function. Although I later learned that he eyed me earlier at a cafe near school and had done some facebook "research" before conveniently appearing at the same function that I attended on the day we met :)
I love reading about how people met--when you start thinking about all the things that have to come together at the right time to allow two people to meet and work well together, you realize it's such an amazing phenomenon when two people meet and fall in love!
Thank you for starting this post, and for everyone's stories.
I met my fiance at bible school. We entered the school together. During 2 years of training, I do not have any feelings for him. I considered him as a regular brother. We were coordinating in one team twice and I still have no feelings at all. After we graduated, we serve full-time in different places. 3 months after that, he proposed. Yes, directly proposing ! He told me to pray before deciding. I prayed, fellowshipped with the elder, and 1 week after, I said yes. 8 months later, we were engaged officially(with his parents come to my parents'). and 7 months after that we will be married.
We met online (I stalked his profile for 3 weeks before finally getting up the courage to email him). Next day we chatted on IM for hours, and the day after that we met for lunch....by the end of the first date I knew he was "the one". :)
Great question!
I checked work, but that doesn't really capture it. We both worked at a ski resort, and the X games trials had just finished and we were at the afterparty. So I also checked a sporting event and a bar!
we met through my college roommate. I was dating someone else at the time, but fi was extra flirty even though he knew I was attached! He told his roommate that we were meant for eachother before I was even single again...and he was so right!
He couldn't even compare to my ex, I knew he was the one before our first date!
We were introduced by my godfather/his best friend (and no he's not old, he's 26 - people always assume he is because he's my godfather). He introduced us intending for us all to be friends, but sparks flew and we've been together ever since!
We met on the first day of a summer program overseas almost nine years ago and kept in touch after returning to the US. We were "just friends" for the first three years because we were geographically challenged, then we finally took a risk and have been together for the last six.
I chose Work and Mutual Friends.
We worked at the same organization, but in different departments. Some friends of mine used to play soccer after work and FH joined them, then we all went out for beers one night and ... instant sparks!
We met at work. He was shy and since I was the new kid in town (literally 2000 miles away from friends and family) I asked him out for dinner in attempt to make new friends...The rest is history ;)
We met at a dance. It was a weekend where many people were in from out of town and we each thought the other was from out of town. Then we saw eachother at another dance the next week, realized we lived only a few miles from each other, and he asked for my number! :)
we met during sixth grade in youth group at church and we've been best friends ever since :)
Mr. Calioc and I met on match.com! He was my 2nd date on match... He'd been on it for a year, so I have no idea what number I was!
The coffee shop on the first floor of the office building we both work in has really slow, confused service...but that's possibly because there's always a super long line up. One morning, when I was reaching for my coffee someone else reached for the same cup. So we chatted a little, exchanged business cards and went to lunch a couple weeks later. And now we're getting married!
We also met on match.com....4 months later we finally agreed to meet and realized we lived around the corner from each other. We'll be getting married 3 years and 1 day from that first meeting :)
I knew he was the one when each time he randomly brought me a treat, he also brought my doggy a treat or toy as well.
On a plane. Granted, we would have met when we landed since we were travelling to the same city to work together, but still. I usually let people come to their own conclusions. ;)
We met in college our freshman year when we lived in the same dorm, but we didn't start dating until 2 years later!
We met through our families. His aunt is my sis-in-laws step mother. Between the two of them, they gave him my email and me his. And the rest as they say is history!
We met on match.com. When we were planning our first date, we figured out his apartment was literally down the external stairs from mine. We were apartment neighbors all along!
We met at a gay bar... yeah, you read that right. He worked there and I assumed he was gay. When I found out he wasn't, I gave him my number but he blew me off. (I found out later he had just gone through a messy breakup with this psycho girl.) A couple years later, we re-connected, started hanging out and soon we were inseparable.
We met on a traffic stop, we're both in law enforcement. We had initially been introduced in the dispatch center and later i heard him pull over a car so I went over to back him up on the stop. We stood and talked for awhile with lights still flsahing, lol. I mentioned to him that I spend time on Myspace and low and behold, he sent me a message with his phone number and we talked for awhile then met for breakfast at 4:00 am. We became an official couple about a week after that and got married september 2008.
I met him on my first day of work at Starbucks. He was the first regular customer whose name I memorized (other than my Dad) and as I understand it, he became an even-more regular customer after I started, since he couldn't really figure out what my work schedule was. Hee. He asked me out on a date over the drink hand-out bar the day after we hung out outside of Starbucks for the first time. It was about 2 months after I started working there. He said he would've asked me earlier, but he and a number of my coworkers had a misunderstanding that I'd be leaving for school several states away at the end of the summer.
My office had a bet going for the last World Cup. Each employee drew two teams. I drew Italy and Tunisia. My Italian co-worker drew America and France. We decided since we'd drawn each other's countries we should watch the match together. My co-worker brought his roommate, who is now my FI, the the pub to watch the match with us :-).
p.s. Italy and the USA tied, 1-1. We've always considered that a bit ironic, as in real life we both 'scored' as well.
p.p.s. And we DID NOT plan it like this, but the first time the USA and Italian national teams will meet again will be our wedding day.
We met in the computer science lab at school... we were a match made in geek heaven!! :)
We met playing kickball as adults. He had just moved to the area and joined with his coworker/roommate, and I joined with my roommates. At the beginning of the season, I remember trying to talk to him and he sort of ignored me (he denies this, of course). A few months later, I was sitting near him at a party and we finally ended up talking for awhile, and that was that.
We met in college while taking a summer session course in accounting. Special circumstances had to happen for us to meet. I had just completed my freshman year of college, and I had yet to take a break from school (took winter session). I had already signed up for accounting, thinking I might consider majoring in business and it would help me get into the major. I wanted to drop it to enjoy my summer and finally get a much needed break, but I was just too lazy and never got around to it.
My fiance had failed linguistics 101 and couldn't graduate on time that spring. He needed to take one more elective course, and he chose accounting because his uncle advised him it would be helpful in the big world. He added the class the day before summer session started. Because he was late to join, he was randomly added to my group.
A lot had to happen for us to meet, and I'm glad it did.
We met during my college freshman orientation. I was auditioning for the marching band, and they had current members of the band help take you through the audition process. I met him and two of his friends (who are 2 of our groomsmen) that day. We became friends for a long time (um...10 years!) and then finally started dating! :)
