Hello fellow bees,
My boyfriend and i are looking for an engagement ring (YAY) But it seems we are having a hard time finding a place that we would like to shop from. We are looking for an in between of your usual mall jewelry stores such as Zales...and not wanting to go as far as Tiffany & Co. either. I think i want a princess cut...either with a pave setting and just the center stone...or a three stone with a princess cut in the middle and trilliant cut diamonds on the sides...any ideas??? need HELP!
Thanks ladies :)
My FI got my ring from a local jewelry store in his hometown. We live in Cleveland (where I am from), but he is from Connecticut and went home to get a ring for me from our favorite jewelry store there! For all of my jewelry, I buy from locally owned stores, no matter what city I'm in. I feel that my shopping experience is more intimate. I have a solitaire princess cut.
go to jamesallen.com. they have a cool website where you can see how different stones look on different bands and such. its actually really fun! i dont know if you should necessarily buy from them because you dont get to see the actual ring, but I am really considering having my BF buy from them. Just not 100% yet! Congrats on the ring shopping, super exciting!!!
Mine came from Walmart! I know most people wouldn't want it from there, but they have really good rings (they have diamonds), for a really good price-mine was $400 for 1/3 carat. I have a marquise cut w/ baguettes. We really don't have much money & who really cares where it's from? They all do the same thing.
Mine came from the same store my parents got my mom's ring from and their wedding bands. FH ended up getting a really awesome deal.
My FI got mine from Kay Jeweler. We had the best experience there while we were looking for my ring and both his best friend and my bf's husband had luck there finding what they wanted for their rings.
I wanted a simple classic ring- and he got me the most perfect princess cut solitaire- after the first ring which got recalled cause the setting kept having the diamond fall out with others- which was a radiant cut solitaire.
I know most people are VERY against this, but we got my ring from eBay! It's not a diamond, it's a sapphire. I saw it while I was looking at rings one day (long before we were engaged!) and fell in love with it. Five days later, it was ours (although he didn't propose for several months - gggrrrr!!!)
.
My FI's uncle actually made my ring. It was custom made based on a picture of a ring i loved with a few alterations. I love knowing that no one else has my ring :)
We got mine at Zales. My is unusal because it's a heart cut diamond.
You can usually "design your own" I know you can do it on the zales website. Maybe you can try that for the perfect ring :D
Wow!
What a diverse group of places! This helps me a lot...i will make sure to look at some local jewelry stores also...anyone heard anything from Bluenile.com? Feel free to post pics of your rings!!! I am still looking for ideas!!!
My FI got my ring from Robbins Brothers.. unfortunately they are only in California & Texas. I would definitely recommend going to a place that specializes in rings to at least figure out the kinds of styles you like. I've heard a lot of good things from Bluenile.com but I haven't had any personal experiences with the site yet.
lots of people do bluenile! Try pricing out some private jewelers FOR SURE. Often they will beat the store price. They know if you like their work, you are likely to keep coming back to them!
My FI got mine from Jared. I had always assumed they'd be the type of place to be overpriced, but he was quite thorough in his search and they had the best diamond for the price. I have a .58 carat princess cut solitare in a 2mm white gold band. I love it, it sparkles soo much! And I get free cleanings whenever I want and as long as I get it checked every 6 months there's a really good warantee on it. Good luck ring shopping!
FI got mine through a locally owned wholesaler called Genesis Diamonds. I felt like it was more personal and upscale than a mall chain store, but we got a great price. I would definitely recommend looking into small businesses and wholesalers.
"We got a friend in the Diamond business"...lol he went to Shane Co.
Bluenile is where my ring came from and it is beautiful. Their customer service is excellent.
My fiance got my ring from blue nile and he had a very positive experience. I think he really enjoyed not feeling pressured by pushy salespeople. He's rather shy... He also really liked their customer service. Also, the ring came very quickly!
I had never heard of bluenile before! = ) Learn something new everyday! Here's my ring, even though it's not a great picture since it was taken outside with a cell phone camera. It's an 18K white gold ring with 3 VERY brilliant white diamonds. The inside of the band says .46, but I'm not sure if that is the Karat weight or not.
Pretty rings, Ladies!
My ring also came from Blue Nile! My FI did a lot of research about what he wanted and looked at a lot of diamonds in person so he could figure out which of the "C"s he thought were important. He ended up using Blue Nile because he could really pick the exact stone that he wanted. And I love it!
My ring came from Amazon.com. You can also select the exact diamond you want and put it in the setting of your choice.
Mine came from Tiffany's. Surprisingly enough we found something in our price range. In fact we spent what my brother spent on my SILs ring at Jared's. I think you need to go try some on in person so that you can figure out your true style. I found lots online that I loved and then didn't like in person on me. Once I figured out what I wanted then we began shopping around with a price, size, metal, etc. in mind.
I started out looking at diamonds and ended-up going for the Aquamarine Legacy from Tiffany's. Aqua is our birthstones and we met on his birthday so this was a good choice for us. And I love the uniqueness of my ring!
Good luck and have fun shopping!
Tiffany and Co here, so not much help :p When looking for wedding bands, I liked Solomon Brothers (online with a real brick and mortar store) that I'm sure has engagement rings as well. Brilliant Earth has great customer service as well, but its online only.
My FI got my ring from a local jeweler--Borsheims. There is only one location, though. I like going to local stores for things, not that there is anything wrong with chain stores or anything like that. I've heard lots of great things about Bluenile.
We went to a local jeweler in Knoxville, TN - Markman's Jewelers. I definitely recommend going the local jeweler route! It's a national brand ring, so we can get it cleaned/repaired at almost any store, but we got really good personal attention at the store.
i was happy we went together, to a traditional, small-town jeweler and found an "estate" ring. in other words: used. considering all the wacky-bad juju involved in the diamond and gold-mining industry, for me buying "old" gold/diamonds was the way to go. (i also considered man-made for the same ethical reasons, but i wanted something traditional and "real," so vintage it was.) my ring is TINY. the TINIEST yellow-gold band with three TINY tiny diamonds on it. and i like it exactly because it's not this super-bling, super-big, or super fashionable platinum extravaganza. i feel because it's already "old" and vintage, it'll never look dated!
my husband got my e-ring on blue nile and we got our wedding bands from there too. he loved it because he could choose the stone and then choose the setting. as others said, the customer service is great and my ring is gorgeous. definitely check it out.
Thank you so much for your feedback ladies!! I know the BF has been cruising Bluenile...but we went ring shopping today and some of the styles just didnt look right on my finger...my ring size is apparently 6.25 (according to the jeweler guy that measured me today) a lot of the stuff i saw just looked too bulky!!! Mrsawesome09...i love the size of your stone as it wont overpower my finger! Vintage 2010..i like the idea that you did birthstones...my birthstone is aquamarine also and its one of the prettiest if you ask me! ;) Everyone has such gorgeous rings!!! Congrats!!! :)
My FI bought my setting from e-bay (it's Tiffany Lucida) then took it to a local jeweler in our home town and had him size it, polish it and put in the diamond. WAY cheaper to do it this way then to buy if from Tiffany! ;o) and it didn't bother me at all that the setting was "used" so to speak.... I don't believe in all the "bad juju" stuff, it's my ring and I LOVE IT!
I'm not sure how much research you've done yet, but if you are getting a diamond, make sure it's certified! (especially for insurance purposes)
Mine was custom designed at a local jewelry store here in nyc Little King Ltd.
My ring came from local jeweler in the NC & VA area, FINKS! They have great customer service! I totally recommend going to a few different places and using a local store!
Mine came from a local jeweler. My fi proposed with no ring bc he knows Im so picky he wanted me to choose mine. We went to places like zales and kays but it seemed like I couldn't find exactly what I wanted. we would find the setting but the diamond had a noticeable flaw. I left ring browsing pretty disapointed. Then I went in the local jewlers after my mom encouraged me to look there and fell in love.THERE CUSTOMER SERVICE IS AWESOME. when we went in places like zales and kays they were friendly but in a pushy way. like it was all about making a sale. like a car sales man. they had a few settings I was ok with but the diamond would have a noticeable flaw. The salesman at the local store was so nice and just normal and not pushy and all about helping. He even suggested I think on it and could come back and talk more. Also in this store we picked our setting and then chose our diamond from there collection it made it feel unique and when I saw my ring it gave me that heart beating faster feeling and the voice in my head screaming THATS SO ME!
I would 100% reccomend a local store!
Mine is a Zales ring we found on Craigslist. But I would like to put in a good positive note for Jared's Galleria. They have amazing service, and every piece of jewelry I've ever bought there was very high quality and they're very concerned with making sure it stays that way!
Mine is Boucheron - it's a French jeweler, but they have a store in San Francisco too.
My ring is also from Tiffany & Co. Worth every penny of the investment- and you really may be very surprised when you see some of their prices.
My now hubby purchased my e-ring from Littman Jewelers. He knew the sales personnel as she was a mother of a childhood friend. She gave him 75% off the ring... Such a beauty and at an affordable price :). He did an awesome job!
My FI purchased the ring at Shane Co- they've been SO helpful with any issues and great to purchase bands from as well.
We got ours from a local jeweler who also reworked antiques. We only looked at local businesses, and not mall stores or tiffany etc, b/c they have a large markup and less personal service. I also wanted a unique ring, and I got a one of a kind. We also would have considered Blue Nile, if we didn't find anything in person, because you get a better value for your $.
