Just curious as to where your baby slept and what they slept in when they were first born. Many of my friends say they had their babies sleep in a bassinet or swing type thing in their bedrooms as opposed to their cribs and wanted to see what you girls did. I am trying to put together my registry and wanted to know what worked best for newborn sleeping arrangements. thanks!!

My baby is sleeping in a little bassinet basket thingie: http://www.target.com/p/summer-infant-by-your-side-sleeper/-/A-13680579
When he outgrows that, he’ll be in a cradle in our bedroom. Then in a pack-n-play in our bedroom if he outgrows the cradle before 6 months.
I plan on keeping him in our bedroom until 6 months. According to the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), babies that room-in with their parents the first 6 months have lower incidence of SIDS.

My preemie slept in a Moses Basket for about the first 6 weeks in her room. I slept on a day bed in her room with her. After 6 weeks, we put her in the crib and she has been there ever since. She is 7 months old now. I still sleep in the nursery, but that is another story. She still isn’t sleeping through the night, but she is still so small.

@Kalamaz17: My baby slept inside a chair shoved inside a pack and play inside our bedroom. We put her in the pack and play, and she just looked so, so tiny, that we put her inside her chair. But we didn’t want the animals to mess with her when she was sleeping, so we put the chair inside the pack and play. This is just the chair when she was three weeks old. She STILL uses this chair for naptime, but when she was 9 weeks we transitioned to a crib in her own room.
ETA: She’s 6 months now. We got our miles worth out of that chair! We hated, HATED the bassinet, which she tried for about a week. She didn’t sleep in it, and we went from a sleeping through the night baby to an up-every-20-minutes baby. After we put her in her crib, she went back to sleeping through the night.

We had a bassinet in our room until 3 months. Then we put her in her room in her crib. The bassinet was a hand me down and I didn’t like that particular one, next time I will get a pack-n-play with a bassinet type deal at the top. I just think that gives you more bang for your buck.

All my kids slept beside our bed in a bassinet or a pak-n-play until about 4-6 months. Then went in a normal size crib.

oh all very interesting and some good ideas. I love seeing what everyone likes to use. I guess I just need to pick one and figure out which one to get!!

DD slept in a bassinet for the first few weeks, maybe 6 weeks. Then we coslept for a while (2-3 weeks) and then we moved her into a normal crib.

Both my babies slept in our bed with us. it helped immensely with breast feeding since both of mine were terrible sleepers and nursed a lot through the night.

Our PLAN is to have him sleep in his crib from day one. We have a bassinet, but we aren’t really comfortable with it since it has soft sides (seems no different than having the bumper in the crib). We’ll see what happens though. We are flexible.

@BoiledPNut: Isn’t the soft side/bumper issue only a concern once they can turn over, which as far as I understand a brand new infant cannot do?
OP, I plan to have our baby in a bassinet in our room, but no matter what, we’ll have the baby in our room, even if he/she grows to big for the bassinet soon. We’ll put the crib in there if we have to.

Most of the time she slept in her crib, but there were a lot of nights where she co-slept with us. It was easiest since I was breastfeeding and didn’t have to get up and down. We did this til about 5 months.

We have a pack n play with the newborn napper at the foot of our bed. He goes down in that, and when he wakes up to be changed/nurse around 4am I bring him into bed with us.
