I see your in jersey. My mom got her dress for my sisters wedding at the bridal garden in marlton. Thats in south jersey. Her dress was gorgeous. The bm dresses were also from there. We also found some really beautiful dresses at jay west in haddonfield. Also in south jersey. Not sure other places. I wouldve suggested Nordstrom, Bloomies and a nice Macys.  (Kop or cherry hill)

She hasn’t bought it yet. but she’s getting hers from David’s Bridal. We went in search of a sash and saw all the mother of the bride dresses. She fell in love with one of them but we had another appointment so we didn’t have time to try it on. The have a good selection of dresses.

I got both of mine at a small local boutique. Bridal shops usually have a large variety, but the costs are almost as much as many bridal gowns too.

What part of the state are you in? I’m in South Jersey if you need any names or locations to check.

My mom is also having a hard time finding a dress she likes.  She wants to wear a suit though, with a jacket and a knee-length skirt.   It’s unbelievable how dowdy the mother of the bride looks are!  My mom is only in her mid-50’s, but a lot of the dresses make her look matronly.

I’ll be watching this thread, too.  We’re also out of options at this point.

We went to several boutiques with no luck.  Ultimately, she found her dress at Nordstorm.

I’m an MOB, just waiting on my daughter to decide if she wants us in short or long dresses.  The short dress I prefer is at David’s Bridal, and the long dresses I liked best were on Nordstrom’s website – have you checked it out?  Although my local Nordstrom has only a small selection in the store, their website hasa huge selection. Shipping is free, so you can order several and try them at home with all the right shoes, undergarments, etc and return them to your local Nordstrom if they don’t work. I share your mom’s frustration with this process – there are so few gowns that aren’t frumpy, and the gorgeous ones cost nearly what my daughter’s dress did!  Good luck – please post what she chooses.

We just got a dress for my FMIL yesterday at Neiman Marcus.  I did not want to go there at first because I thought that the price was going to be out of control.  But actually we found a few things that were reasonably priced.  And honestly some of them are at the same price point at any bridal shops but look a lot nicer and less matronly.  We also saw some nice stuff at Bloomingdales but she did not like it as much.

@Ms.Sugarsnap:  omg really?? We used a dressing room with a door. The service wasn’t stellar when we went but they had the dress we needed so we sucked it up. Someone at Macy’s just told me the same thing about bridal garden. She was also looking for fmil dress.
