@jesssamesssa:  What field are you looking in? I’ve always had better luck brainstorming nearbly organizations/businesses and looking directly on their site. Also try out idealist.org!

Have you tried Craigslist?  What about ZipRecruiter?

@jesssamesssa:  Some are, some aren’t.  Monster and CareerBuilder are extremely expensive to own memberships to/post to.  So many smaller companies (such as my own) use Craigslist as a cheap alternative to spending thousands on the larger job search websites.  If you do the research, you can find legit job postings.  I would research the companies that you find on CL.  If they don’t disclose their company, don’t repsond.  Also, make sure your home address is never on your resume.  You can simply put your phone # and email.  If they need your location, put your zip only! I would also leave out middle names.

Yep I second looking directly at a company’s website. Come up with a list of all the companies that are in your field and visit each site’s employment section. During my job search, I learned that some places don’t post their available positions anywhere besides their own website!

Network! Ask your friends, colleagues, professors, mentors, anyone if they know of anyone hiring.

What type of jobs are you looking for?  Try Linkedin! thats where I found the first job at the company i work for now.
You will need to create a profile.. its kind of like facebook for the professional world.  I would say almost all of the jobs on there are legit, unlike Monster where some jobs are a scam.  I work for a huge company and they post all their job openings on Linkedin.

Indeed is a good place to start like you mentioned.  I also used LinkedIn when looking for jobs.  To search for jobs there, if you are on your homepage or logged in there is a field up top that says “Jobs”.  Just click there and they will show you recommendations based on your profile

I also second networking and looking at company’s websites directly.  Get a list of companies in your field or that you would potentially be interested in working at (sometimes I look at my state’s “Top Places to Work” lists and then search the company website from there).  Also, not sure what field you are in but if you are in the IT field Dice.com is a good place to go.

Another thing I just thought of that I use when searching is my university’s alumni site.  They have extensive job postings there and a lot of times have jobs that aren’t posted elsewhere because the hiring manager is an alumn and is looking for an alumn 🙂  Not sure if your university or college has a service similar to that but it might be worth looking into.
