You can purchase a day pass at the airport to take advantage of their showers...usually the Admirals Club or something.
It sucks to spend the dough, but you may just have to!
PS i have totally cleaned up the generic bathroom at the airport, squirreled away in the corner, putting makeup on after an overnight flight to catch a business meeting. People DO change at the airport.
Does the hotel have a lounge? A spa? Any sort of 'extra' amenities they'd allow you to use early? Most hotels i've arrived at early have been pretty accomodating. I guess it depends what kind of place you stay at tho.
I would suggest showering before you leave, and then take over the hotel's bathroom. I work at a hotel, and if we can't get someone into their room early, we always offer them to use the public restroom to do hair, make-up, etc. Not the best solution, but it's free! And then you could leave your luggage, etc at the hotel for check-in later!
Most of the time, hotels will let you check in early. And if every single room in the hotel is booked, you can always use the hotel's bathroom (usually on the first floor off the lobby). You can do hair and makeup in the hotel bathroom. Of course, this assumes you showered before getting on the plane.
You can always call the hotel manager, explain your situation and ask what the likelyhood is that you will be able to check in early.
Agree with pvaulter. I would shower before you leave and hope that maybe you can check in early. Otherwise, you can check your luggage at the front desk and get ready in the hotel bathroom.

Ok, so we (wedding guests) fly in to BWI at 8 AM...the wedding is at 2. We can't check into our room until 3. So, um, do we change clothes in our rental car??? They won't tell us until the day before if we can check in early. We might be able to find a local gym in our "gym network"....but if not...????
I am not getting on a 6 AM flight wearing a dress!
Any ideas?
