DH & I rarely eat at the table. A habit we’re going to try to change once baby is here because we want to have “family sit-down meals”. (We currently usually eat our food while watching TV, playing on the computer, etc.)
I grew up only eating at the table for special occasions (birthdays, holidays, etc), we would always eat in the living room while watching TV. DH grew up eating at the table almost all the time.

I grew up always eating in the kitchen…which opened up to the family room where the tv was. So yes, we sat around the table, but we essentially ate dinner in front of the tv. DH and I now eat at the counter in our kitchen which also opens up to our family room where the tv is, so again, pretty much eat in front of the tv. Both growing up and now, we only eat at the formal dinning table when it’s a formal occasion. We have also agreed that once we have kids we will sit at the dinning table with no tv and cell phones to distract us so we spend some quality family time.

- Wedding: July 2012 - The Gables Inn, Santa Rosa, CA
We eat at the dinner table every chance we can– but lately, it’s been getting less and less because the dining room has turned into the defacto-wedding decoration storage area. So, lately more meals have been happening on the coffee table in the living room, with the TV on– something I HATE, and will be ending once again, after the wedding is over.
I grew up with family dinners 7 days a week; FI grew up the opposite– but he agrees that spending meals together is better.

I grew up eating at a table, whether it be dining or kitchen, with the TV off. My family made it a point to do this – it’s when we talk as a unit and share things. FI and I do this, as well. We always eat at the dining table, with the TV off.
When I’m eating dinner alone, I eat in front of the computer. When I eat alone, I eat super fast, but when I eat at the computer, I slow down.

We use to always eat at our dinning room table. But we drifted into the living room either while watching tv or if I am home alone I will eat at the computer. I would love to eat at the table when we have kids though. But for now its no biggy because we are on the couch together when we eat. 🙂

We eat together on the couch watching tv. We never ever use our dining room table but when we have kids in the future we will =]

We eat at the table almost all of the time, unless one of us has just had a really cruddy day, and then we curl up with our plates on the couch to watch something, but it’s very rare.

When we first moved in together we ALWAYS ate at the table, but that was mostly because my DH was really busy studying for a professional exam and so that 30 minutes might be our only real chance to connect in a day and I didn’t want to spend it watching tv. Now that we have tons of free time together we eat in front of the tv. When life gets busier I think we’ll get back to the table.

We always do family dinner at the kitchen tabl. Every once in a while we let the kids have a “picnic” in the living room, but it is a special thing when we do it.

I voted at the table almost always, but our kitchen opens to our living room, so we are usually watching tv. Our kitchen table (which is a taller, pub-style table) sits right behind our couch. And yes, much of the time the tv is on. Our entire downstairs is open, so it’s kind of hard to avoid it.

When we eat together, it’s always at the table, but when I eat by myself, it’s usually at my computer (unless it’s something really messy.)

At the table, almost always. We don’t keep a television in our living room, so we don’t really have an alternative. Occasionally, we’ll have weekend breakfast/lunches in the living rooms while we’re on our computers, but that’s rare. If I’m home alone, I’ll usually eat in front of my laptop.
I grew up eating at the kitchen table every night, and we were never allowed to have the television on during dinner, so that’s what I’m used to.

We eat dinner at the table every night. Growing up my family NEVER did this and it’s something I wanted to change when I started my own:)

DH has to “tune out” to eat. He used to starve from stress. It is a long story, but when I met him he was very thin because growing up he didn’t have enough food and always let his younger sisters eat instead. So, any kind of stress= he has a hard time eating. So, he likes to watch a show on his computer while he eats. I don’t really like it, but I choose my battles. He has come such a long way. He used to not be able to eat at all really, so, I just let him do it. I like to eat at the table. If we have kids someday I would take the step to get him to eat at the table. One step at a time.

I was about to feel bad when I voted that we never really eat at the table but it looks like people like us are the majority now!
