I think traditionally it goes on top of the invitation to avoid ink smearing (which these days is not a problem).

You really don't need it. It's ok to throw it out and not use it. It's leftover from the days when invites were written out by hand instead of using modern printing processes. But when it was included, it would go on top of the invite to blot the ink.

This may be a stupid question!
We picked up our invitations yesterday (actually my dad did, since FI and I both had to work late). While going thru the boxes, I found a bunch of tissue paper cut to the exact same size as our invitations. I know they're supposed to go in the envelopes with the invitations -but where? I thought possibly on top of the invitation itself so the raised lettering doesn't touch the envelope...is that right?
Any help would be much appreciated :)
