Just wondering where you're from: Rochester, Buffalo, Syracuse, Jamestown.... you get the picture....
I'm from Rochester...anyone else?
I'm from Albany and my FI is from the Fonda/Fultonville area.
I'm from Colonie, which is basically Albany. Its a nice town, now that I moved away lol.
Heeheee, this thread is awesome bc only Upstaters really get it...I'm from New Lebanon, NY which is a teeny tiny (really! population 1700, graduating class of 43) town about 30 miles east of Albany, near the Mass border...Holla for upstate!
I know...living in NYC it's so funny what people think is "upstate." When I say I'm from Albany, people think I grew up on a farm, or that I live "next to Buffalo."
I grew up (an had my wedding) in Rochester. Right now i'm in grad school far away from home though
I'm from Rochester...actually about 45 minutes outside of Rochester towards Syracuse.
@hotchild - lol I alwyas laugh when someone here (NYC) mentions "Upstate." Or I tell them I am originally from upstate and they say "Where, like westchester-ish?" I say sayracuse and its always "oh, near Canada!"
haha- I hate that anywhere NOT NYC is considered "upstate" to people who live in NYC. There's an entire state that's NOT NYC!
I'm having my wedding in Pittsburgh, but I'm from Corning, the glass capital of NY!
I soo want to go to the corning museum of glass! but it's soooo far away from Rochester! I didn't realize that until we took a trip to NYC!
Pmerr, you could do it in a day trip! It's only about 90 minutes. Spend some time in Corning, then stop in the Finger Lakes to go to some of the wineries.
@CarrieASB: I have family in Corning! My uncle is a retired executive from Corning Glass.
@hotchildinthecity--the funny coincidence is that my entire family lives in Albany, where I was born, and lived til I was six!
I grew up in Plattsburgh, but have been in Ithaca for years now...I agree with the upstate comment...people just don't get when I say I am from upstate I mean upstate..literally Plattsburgh is at the northern tip of NY, while the city is on the complete opposite southern tip...I never really consider Ithaca upsate it's more central in my mind.
I'm from Geneva and went to school at UB. WDWbride you sound like you're from my area!
I avoid saying Upstate NY to people because it seems to mean too many different things. I generally say I am from the Finger Lakes region, between Rochester and Syracuse.
@KellyV: Near Canada?? lol that's hilarious.
Its so funny to hear that other NYC peeps or people that moved away, have the same problem when we tell people we're from Upstate! I thought it was just me! My BM's were considering take a plan because they thought the 3 hour drive was actually 8 hours... wth?
yeah-it's funnier with out of staters-FI has family in Cincinnati-we went to visit & they were excited that they could go see NYC-ummmmm it's another 7 hours away... His cousin was wondering how far away it would be even from there b/c she made friends with people on a trip to Morrocco that are from NYC-they were all shocked that it was so far away!
I'm new here, but I'm from Waterford, just a little north of Albany :)
Hi Everyone!! I'm in Clifton Park, not far from Saratoga!
@trailmix...I know the town your from and the speedway! LOL..
@Kelodesigns...We're neighbors!!
Im from smack dab in between Rochester and Buffalo! We just bought a house about 35 minute from Rochester and will be hvaing our wedding halfway in between too!
I'm originally from a small town called Whitney Point, which is about 45 min. south of Syracuse. I currently live in the Ithaca area w/my fiance. He is originally from the Jamestown area.
I am from New Hartford, right outside of Utica but the wedding is in Albany area!
I grew up in Essex, County - High Peaks ADK.
I am currently in Red Bank, NJ - Central Shore area.
It will be an ADK wedding though :)
@ JulyBride2010- That's TOOOO funny, my house is literally less than a mile from the Lebanon Valley Speedwaaaaaaay way way way (said in the announcers voice, which you can hear from my back porch :)...
@TrailMix: My cousin goes there ALL THE TIME. And FI grew up near the Fonda Speedway. (which I believe is a downgrade from Lebanon Valley. HA)
Hello!
Born in NYC raised in Trumansburg (right near Ithaca) went to College in NYC; lived there for 6 yrs, now back in Ithaca!
Great post! Im from WNY.. Buffalo, and boy is it cold outside!!! Lots of snow.. and wind. BRRRR!
I'm from (my parents live there now) Northern NY (Ogdensburg), when they say like Canada, I say, why yes, if I walk outside in my parents drive-way, I can see Canada and then they look at my like I'm crazy but it's so true!
Oooh Ooh! I live in Rochester! I grew up more downstate though, like an hour east of Binghamton. I love New York! (like that wasn't obvious) I get so excited to see people that live near me on here!
This thread's making me laugh.
@JulyBride2010: I'm from Clifton Park, too (and went to school in Ithaca)!
