I need to live vicariously right now, since it's grey and rainy here in Seattle.  I'm dreaming of Africa this evening (and watching a David Attenbourough special on leopards)...

So where have you been that was really cool?  What was really awesome about it?

Our Mediterranean honeymoon was amazing!  I haven't blogged about it yet, but I think Croatia (Dubrovnik) was my favorite place.  The views are just spectacular!

I've been to Australia :) Not with my FI though. It is absolutely beautiful there! In particular I enjoyed snorkeling in the Great Barrier Reef (though my fear of sharks hampered my fun while I was actually doing it) and I loved petting kangaroos and holding a koala. Basically it was all gorgeous :) I have also been to Ireland and I loved loved loved the countryside and castles. Hope this helps you envision somewhere fancy! I myself have to live vicariously...hopefully we can afford a Hawaii honeymoon...we have over a year to save!

The coolest place I've ever been was Jamaica. I loved that it is so gorgeous, but you really get to see the "real" side of it - as opposed to alot of the other Caribbean islands where you only see the touristy part.

We climbed to Dunns River Falls in Jamaica and it was probably the coolest thing I've ever done!

honestly... in your neck of the woods!

i went from Seattle to Alaska via british columbia an the yukon and back down via the inside passage and loved it!  did it for 8 weeks, slept in tents, woke up with moose nearby while overlooking glaciers and even walked past baby bears (by accident btw) and big bears

would do it again in a heart beat and hope to take hubby there one day

otherwise, the south pacific is my playground. Fiji, vanuatu, nuie, east timor, tonga, png, the solomans, christmas island - i have loved all these places because they all offer something interesting.

oh, and micronesia - loved guam, truk, palau and yap... fantatic places also

Ooh, I'd love to check out micronesia.  It's so stinking far from here... and can you believe that I've never made it to Alaska?  What's wrong with me?  I'm the closest to it that you can get in the US, and yet I haven't yet been.

I hear ya about Seattle right now.

I haven't been to that many places but my favorite by far is Hawaii. I absolutely love it there. I love snorkeling, I love the scenery, the culture, everything. One of the coolest things I have ever done on vacation is when we were on the Big Island and we swam with these big giant manta rays! It was like being in another world. Love it!

Europe was an amazing trip, I just had my 10 year anniversary of that trip, kinda bummed me out that its been that long.

My favorite vacation that we have taken as a couple was actually this summer to the San Juan Islands in WA.  I loved every minute of it there, I just felt like I was in the right place- ocean and pine trees, my heaven!

I've been all over Europe and the various Islands scattered around there and Hawaii, but honestly... my favorite place in the world is out west in Montana and Wyoming. There is no beauty compared to Grand Teton National Park, and they have some of the BEST breakfast cooking around. Plus, rodeos are pretty much my most favorite thing ever.

Santorini in Greece is the most beautiful place in the entire world.  Everything is blue and white, the sunsets are incredible, it's basically an island that was formed by a caldera volcano.  So so so gorgeous!

What an awesome trip you have in store, grace!  Have fun!

KM- I have to agree about the intermountain region.  There's nothing so amazing as the Tetons, Glacier and Yellowstone.  It is truly breathtaking country!

The coolest place that I have ever been was Liberia, Africa - not for a vacation but for missions work that was incredibly life changing. The people there were in very unfortunate circumstances, but so lively and thankful for what they had. It was amazing!!

Surprisingly one of the best vacations I've had is going to Cuba. It's untouched. It's so gorgeous... the people are wonderful. It's so quiet & relaxing. Also because US Citizens can't travel there the resorts are never packed. Mostly Brits & Canadians occupy Cuban resorts and we just don't have the numbers like Americans do. The resorts are usually around 50% full so the service is always incredible. I've never had a bad experience traveling there.

I've gone there every year since I was 16 and thats one thing that saddens me about immigrating to the US. I can't even go this next year while still living in Canada because it may cause problems with US immigration. I'll miss Cuba :(

    My coolest vacations were, wow.

Well, once I went to Germany and Italy to buy some bows for my violin. I spent 2 weeks with a Geigenbaumeister in Munich, then went to Cremona (where Strad was from, and fantastic violin making schools are), then back to Munich to buy 2 $5,000 Gruenke bows. *drool* I have fantastic parents.

Then, I spent a summer in Barcelona, which was fantastic. I was at the Hotel Arts [ http://www.hotelartsbarcelona.com/ ], which has to be one of the most awesome hotels I've been to. Funky and fabulous. Plus, I got to swim nekkid on the roof every night, and then spend my days with a driver and a Maybach trolling around the city. <3 Gaudi, <3 Barcelona.

I also spent a month in Japan- one week in Tokyo and three weeks in Osaka. Such a fantastic adventure. My bathroom at the Ritz in Osaka was the size of my current apartment. Floor to ceiling marble. Ridonk.

Needless to say, I've had some pretty amazing travel experiences, and those are just the tip of the iceberg. I just got tired of yammering. :p

i really loved scuba diving at the great barrier reef and white water rafting in borneo for 'adventure'.

the white water rafting experience in particular was awesome because we had to take this 'local' train (no windows/doors, rubbish everywhere on the floors, dirty, paint chipping and rust everywhere, not enough seats and so people would sit outside on an 'open' carriage) to the rafting site. then the rafting itself was exciting because it had just rained a few hours before, and so the rapids were stronger than what it would normally be.

just that whole experience was really fun!

I'd have to say Roatan Island, off the coast of Honduras.  It's stunningly beautiful, and really unspoiled by large resorts.  Plus there is a huge barrier reef off the coast that you can swim to from the shore.  It's amazing.

The strangest place I've been to is Romania, a couple of years ago.  Bucharest was odd, though I did like the food (very Greek-influenced, which was a surprise to me).  Sinaia, where the "summer palace" of the king is, was gorgeous.

And I love the castles that line the banks of the rivers in Germany - I've been up and down the Rhine and Mosul near Koblenz, where they come together.

Hmmmm, I feel like I really haven't been to that many cool places.  We never traveled when we were kids (no $$) and I didn't do a semester abroad or anything in college.

I've been to St. Thomas, Nassau, Miami/South Beach, Vegas, and Disneyworld.

Looking forward to our honeymoon, which will hopefully be in Costa Rica :o)

Hmmmm probably my favorite place I've ever been is Barcelona. Just so beautiful and such a fun city. I loved walking through the crowded city and seeing random fountains and courtyards down every ally!

I totally feel you on Africa though. It is one of my life goals to spend at least a month or two traveling all over Africa, maybe doing some volunteer work, etc. Unfortunately the bf does not share this dream so I may have to recruit a gf to go, but I can deal with that! I think I can get bf to some of the more touristy areas though... South Africa, Egypt, Morocco, etc. :)

I lived in South Africa for a year, so I got to experience a lot of the country and 2 months after I met my fi we took a 3 week road trip and drove down the Garden Route, to Cape Town, up through the Kalahari Desert and spent two weeks in Namibia!  It was the most amazing experience.

Also, when I lived in London, I got to travel around Europe a bit... weekends in Paris, Brussels, Austria, Edinburgh, two weeks in Spain and two weeks in Italy!  So, I've been pretty lucky, but in my mind... nothing compares to South Africa!

@ Peyton79, I just went on a Rhein River Cruise last month and was amazed by all of the castles and it was a special day with a huge fireworks show at midnight, watching taking it all in from the boat was possibly one of the most amazing things I've experienced.

I spent 2 weeks in Japan this summer from Toyko to Mt. Fuji and Kyoto to Hiroshima and a few other places in between. It was my best vacation yet, full of culture, nature, history, big cities and new friends.

I've also loved Italy, Prague and Finland and the Bahamas all for very different reasons.

Domestically, my two favorite trips of all time were:

    - Costal Georgia - Sea Island and Amelia Island with a side trip to Savannah

    - Napa and Sonoma - there is just something about wine country that is a little magical

Internationally - a 10 day, all inclusive tour of Greece.  Our tour guide was fantastic, our group was awesome, and we didn't have to think about a thing.

With him - Puerto Rico - swimming in the Bioluminiscent Bay in Vieques was so romantic.

With my family - toss up between Peru with my parents (Machu Picchu is breathtaking) or Australia with my cousins (the Great Barrier Reef was amazing).

    Most beautiful - Santorini

Place I could most see myself happily living in (besides home) - London or New York

I love to travel and have been lucky to have mostly great, memorable trips -- I only hope he and I get to do more of it before starting a family.

@Corgitales -- traveling in Africa or India as a volunteer is one of my life goals too.   I highly recommend this book called "Volunteer Vacations" - it's an awesome resource.
