Well, I haven't been to any of those places but the friends I know who've been to both Turkey and Greece absolutely RAVED about them both! Personally, I have pretty much zero interest in Hawaii, since it's pretty similar to the Carribbean and Virgin Islands and Japan would be cool but not as "honeymoonish" as the other two, so my overwhelming vote goes for Turkey and Greece!
I'd head for Hawaii and Japan if I was in your shoes (sorry trailmix
). That way you could start out chilling in Hawaii and then go to Japan and experience a very different culture. But hey, I like action-packed trips with lots to do - Greece is indeed very worthy of reccomendation and definately worth the visit.
Hawaii is definitely ultimate honeymoon feeling, and Japan in Sept/Oct is gorgeous. So much interesting stuff to see. But I also love love love Turkey (Istanbul is one of my favorite cities in the world!) so it's pretty tough to say. What are your top priorities for the "active" location? What kind of vibe do you want?
(I also have lots of info about my trips to Turkey and Japan in my blog at http://patrinadoestheglobe.blogspot.com/ if you are interested in more info/pictures)
I feel like Japan and Hawaii would be a lot to squeeze in in 10-14 days. Also, I'm on the same page as TrailMix that Hawaii has always been kinda meh to me since I've been to other places in the Caribbean.
My vote is for Turkey and Santorini.
I would DIE to go to Turkey. I priced it out and was like "sigh, if only we didn't pay for our own wedding" cuz then we'd have had the money.
Turks and Caicos looks like paradise to me. And I think Hawaii is kinda overrated--tropical is tropical to me but Turkey is mediterreanean.
Thanks for the replies! Hotchild, trailmix, and ejs: I agree that I'm kinda meh about hawaii as well; the only reason we chose it is because my FI really wants to go to Japan, but I would want to do a beach-y type place in addition, and Hawaii is on the way to/from Japan (well, kinda).
@katrina: I guess when I said active, I meant a place where we could walk around, visit lots of different shops/museums/landmarks. But I would also love a place where we could do outdoorsy stuff like hike and go snorkling. Does anyone know if Santorini offers those things...?
I think the great thing about Istanbul is that you can walk all over that city, every day, and still have more to see. It's super walkable, too! More so than Tokyo and Kyoto. The more I think about it the more my vote goes to Turkey/Greece, but either way it sounds fabulous. Good luck!
Wherever you go I'm totally jealous!
We can barely afford to go on one honeymoon location and you are planning two! We were going to St. Lucia to the Sandals location and we had a 2 story condo set up with a walk in pool right outside our door...my FI lost his job in November so we cancelled the trip and are now headed to Mexico...such a bummer! It should be nice though cuz it's just us at an adults only resort for a week! Nothing better than that!
My advice....tour Europe. If that's not an option, Turkey and Santorini...two amazing places you will probably love! My friend lives in Norway and all the girls from there go to Turkey for spring break because it's a ritzy place that is very classy and the beaches are amazing. Anita raves about Turkey all the time!
I picked Turkey and Santorini. I would love love love to go there. While Japan and Hawaii are awesome... that's a lot of traveling! And Japan is soooo not relaxing. I feel like we'll all want some r&r after the wedding. So Turkey and Greece provide that with a bunch of awesome activities. I'm kinda already jealous! I kid, I kid.
Turkey and Greece for sure!! Jealous as well...we wanted to do Greece but just cant afford it right now!
oooh @mrs.lorson, I didn't even think about the fact that there are beaches in Turkey...do you/anyone know if they're close to Istanbul?
I definitely think I"m leaning toward Turkey and Santorini now too...@jennifer_espos, Japan IS a far flight! And from what I've seen Tokyo is insanely busy, like you said...not very relaxing at all!! I'll let you ladies know what we decide--or if we end up somewhere totally different! FI mentioned something about going to South Africa, lol...he can't make up his mind either!
I haven't been to ANY of those places so I think they all sound pretty wonderful :)
Sorry this is in no way helpful...but let us know what you decide and I'm sure it'll be awesome!
I'd gladly go to ANY of those places!
I loved Santorini, but I would actually combine a trip to Santorini with Italy since that is also one of my favorite countries in the world.
If your FI really loves Tokyo, maybe you could combine it with Thailand? The beaches are amazing, and we loved playing with the elephants and tigers in Chiang Mai.

Hi bees! My FI and I have been discussing our honeymoon lately and have been completely unable to decide where we want to go. I think part of the reason is that we don't have that much knowledge about the places that we're considering. So I thought I would turn to you all! We're definitely planning on doing our own research as well, and I know plenty of people have probably been to Hawaii (and I just drooled over Mrs. Star's posts about her Greek honeymoon!).
We're currently considering either Japan and Hawaii, or Turkey and Santorini, Greece. Either way, we would (hopefully!) be taking about 10 days to 2 weeks and we would be going in late Sept, early Oct. Has anyone been to any of those places or have any experience/advice to share about other places that might be good for us? We definitely want to go to two places, the first being a city/more active stop, and the second being more of a relaxing, leisurely place. Thanks, bees!
