I really wasn't a fan. To me, the movie was beautiful in some ways, but it was also tedious. However, some of my friends loved it.
We had a robust debate about the movie in last Monday's post-a-thon. I'll see if I can find it.

I had a feeling that other people didn't/wouldn't like it, and usually I'm more critical, but I really enjoyed it for some reason.
Btw, jocelyn, we're date twins a year apart. Does that make us Irish date twins?
And thanks Mrs. DG for posting the board. I thought people had been talking about this but couldn't for the life of me find what they were saying. I'm still glad that I got to form my own opinion first, but I'm always curious to see what others think.
I will say that the idea of sleeping in a big pile of fuzzy creatures sounds awesome.
I try to get my shaggy dog to do that, but he likes his space.
I enjoyed it a great deal - theater full of hipsters notwithstanding.
I guess I just went hoping to leave feeling good. As though I had just read a poignant children's book. But I left feeling awful and so sad for all the characters.
I suppose it helped that I didn't expect to feel "up" at the end of the film. My impression from reading reviews is that most people seeing the film felt that, because the protagonist is a child, the film ought to have a happy ending. I don't think the target audience is the under twelve set, personally, but even if it were I'd find that conclusion a bit odd. Being a child is often difficult, it's often not a lot of fun, and it's a bit patronizing to assume that pre-teens can't handle that rather basic reality.
Besides the fact that my husband has gotten to calling everything we do a "wild rumpus", and referring to Twister as a wild rumpus(ha!), I found the movie different than I planned
DH says he identified with the frustrationg of the little boy(when he was that age), but I just thought the movie, while kind of ingenius, was so melancholy!
Still, the actor who played Max did an incredible job!
Cannot wait to see it! Gotta love Arcade Fire's music in the movie too!

I finally saw this movie last night. I'm not one to cry at movies, but I got misty and it tugged at my heart strings. It really renewed my faith in childhood creativity. I'd recommend it as a great date movie if anyone's looking for something to do this weekend.
