Also there is a boutique at the corner of Mott and Pell Street. They make custom cheongsam, but also sell of the rack.
@Mommalita: what kind of Qipao? I am in a wedding dresses market here in Suzhou,China and there are many kinds of Qipao. Traditional and evolutionary ones.
I got mine at the boutique mentioned by @louisianablue. I don't know if it has a name, but it is located at 38 Mott @ Pell. They primarily sell custom, but I was able to buy a sample off the rack.
Does anyone have any idea of price range for off the rack vs custom? I'm thinking about wearing one for our rehearsal dinner because I'm not changing into one during the wedding.
@mjm2012: I am also wearing my qipao for our banquet the night before the wedding. In NYC I saw prices hovering around $300 for off the rack and custom prices starting at $400.
@LittleRiver: Thanks! I think I'm going to check out your place and peony red this week to get an idea of pricing and designs. May just walk around Chinatown and stop inti anyplace that sells.
I finally bought one from a Chinese company on the internet. It's really lovely but it needs alterations.

Where are the good places to buy a qipao off the rack in NYC? This is for my daughter and she will just wear it for an hour during the reception.
