Where do you live? Where I’m from, live trees are sold at most of the larger grocery stores and also at independent large christmas tree lots around town. Don’t buy it too early or it’ll dry out though!

We get a real tree every year and our dogs don’t care for it that much. Our puggle gets a little curious about the low hanging ornaments but only particular ones.

We usually get ours from Home Depot, but I would love to cut our own because they last so much longer! We don’t have any places like that near us.

I got mine from Walmart. It’s pretty inexpensive.

Deciding between real v artificial is half the battle. If you want artificial, any of the big box stores should sell them. You might even find a good deal on a tree on craigslist or something.

We got ours at Target last year. We are moving from our tiny apartment to a house 10 days before Christmas, so we’ll throw the artificial one up for this year, but intend on a real one next year. FWIW, my parents have a labrador retriever (and used to have 2) and they don’t mess with the tree (real one). But if your dogs tend to be curious, I totally understand getting an artificial one. The one we got from Target is deceiving- it could pass for a real one from a distance, but I missed the smell!

Kay1126:  It’s funny you mention the smell. I bought these things called Scentsicles at Michaels Crafts and I swear our fakey tree smells SOOOO real. They look like incense sticks and come with a little hook to hang them on the inside of the tree. I can smell the tree when I walk into the house!

We have two trees (: We got a small white pre-lit one from Wal-Mart when we had our condo and then when we bought our house we got a really full 8′ one from Home Hardware (a Canadian hardware store chain). It’s beautiful and we chose not to get pre-lit so that we could use the tree longer (I hate when the lights on pre-lit trees die aha) and also so we have the option of switching out the lights.

rcac1208: OMG thank you, I’ll have to try those! I was so bummed when our closing date got moved back because I knew there was no way we’d have time to get a real tree this year. The smell is really all that I miss. Thank you!

We got one from Sam’s Club one year and it was big and beautiful, but it dried out very quick. Last year we got our tree from Lowe’s and it was a very good tree.

Growing up I always had fake trees. Our cats would bury themselves in them… it didn’t matter if they were fake. My mom always ended up taking the tree into the sunroom when she left for work, so they would leave it alone.

We get real trees now. They smell so beautiful! Our dog and cat love to sleep under the tree. It’s like bringing the forest inside! They don’t climb in the tree, but I did lose a chunk of a Strawberry Shortcake scented ornament to a bored dog one day.
