My cousin has some beautiful ones that she actually bought at thrift stores and pawn shops. Alot of times when someone passes their family will just donate everything to a thrift shop so some beautiful vintage rings can end up there. And also some good quality ones!

pawn shops, estate sales and auctions are some of the best places to go. I work at a pawn shop and we get tons of antique rings, both engagement style and RHR. If you worry about the rings being legit most pawn shops have a diamond tester they use when they purchase jewelry, make sure you ask to have it tested in front of you before you purchase. The pawn shop that I work for base most of their jewelry prices off of the weight of the gold and the size/quantity of the diamonds. Some prices are adjusted if the diamonds are obviously of better quality but we do not certify them unless they come in with the certification originally. Do some research on what real antique jewelry/diamonds look like and what characterisitcs to look for to verify they are actually vintage and not reproductions, we get those as well. We do not base our price off of their vintage value, only gold weight and diamond size/quantity. Again, that is our pawn shop, not all of them. Just remember not all pawn shops are skeevy, nor are they out to “screw you over” We take pride in our business and do the best we can to provide quality used items at affordable, logical prices. 🙂

@rcac1208:  when I wanted to shop for vintage rings, I just put “antique engagement rings” and my zip code into google. Also yelp was helpful for finding which stores had the best selection. Then we went to about four or five of them over the course of several months. I never really considered buying online even though I know it can be a better value. But I did look online to get an idea of pricing and terminology.
