I am looking into hotels to pick for our wedding guests and I am having a tricky time. The ceremony will be in downtown LA, and there are a few hotels that are walking distance from the ceremony/reception site. (And walking distance to anywhere in LA is hard to accomplish!!).
My issue is that even though a lot of people will come from out of town, most people have SOME Los Angeles connection that they will be staying with and won’t need a hotel. (Plus we only have about 85 guests total–including the plus-ones.) If I do a hotel block, I will only be able to do it at one hotel, so I don’t know what will be most convenient for people.
Given that it’s LA, they will have to rent a car regardless–but if we get the downtown hotel the would be able to walk to/from wedding & not have to worry about drinking & driving. However, I don’t really know anyone who WANTS to stay in downtown LA; there are probably a lot of places a 20 minute drive or less that will have more things going on in the immediate area, like restaurants or things like that (and free parking).
If you were coming to this wedding, where would you prefer to be?

I would say to still suggest a couple of downtown hotels in case they’re interested. Glendale and Los Feliz are areas that aren’t too far from downtown, how about those?

I can definitely suggest multiples & I definitely will do so in different price ranges. Both of those are good areas to look for places–esp Los Feliz, it’s so cute!!
I just can only do one “block” given the small number of folks who will probably be staying at hotels.
Do you think a block just isn’t necessary? There are lots of LA hotels & people who need to stay at a hotel would probably be able to find bargains through hotwire, expedia, etc.–especially since they will be driving anyway.
Would you think it was rude for a host not to have hotel blocks with a guaranteed price?

Hi, I’m kind of right in the middle of this too! The problem that keeps hitting me in the head is the fact that though I can get wedding rated rooms, every single hotel has parking for 30 bucks a night. A NIGHT! So, we are most likely picking one of the cheaper hotels, getting a block at a reduced rate, and then telling everyone the price with the parking included. I swear, it’s a racket over here!
