I’m planning to make some chalkboard signs (that aren’t really chalkboards at all….my photographer made these amazing ones in photoshop and I’m stealing her idea) and I want some fancy/decorative frames but I’m not willing to spend a ton of money on them as I probably won’t use them again.
I’d like to have one for the seating chart, one directing people to the ceremony and reception, and possibly another welcoming people – each about 18×20 – 24×36, suggestions?

Try thrift store or antique stores, anything that carries old stuff. They are getting really hard to find and expensive since they became popular on pinterest. You might consider a framing shop and see how much something ornate might be there.

I agree with @tksjewelry: try the Thrift Stores that sell furniture etc, Flea Markets, Garage Sales, etc.

A good alternative to ornate frames that coul be pricey you could look into wooden shapes like these:
You could get a small can of chalkboard paint and paint them yourself. They range from about $.79 to $10 and come in all shapes and sizes.

@MsGinkgo: I got 2 frames for my “chalkboard” signs (menu & vow cards) from Hobby Lobby. They were $10 on sale & very hefty and beautiful 🙂
But if you are looking for something a little different or more on the fancy handmade side, then check out this Etsy seller:
I recently bought a handmade frame from him that was honestly such a piece of art. Just beautiful & the finish was impeccable.

If you can’t find what you are looking for at thrift shops, try Winners or Home Sense ( OP in Canada).
