So my wedding date is quickly approaching, and I’m having a lot of trouble finding a good makeup artist. I want someone who can properly pull off a somewhat dramatic look, but my first choice turned out to be $300 for the bride, and another $150 for each bridesmaid. My second choice is out of town the week of my wedding.
I’d love to find a MAC makeup artist, but would rather not go to the MAC counter at the mall. I hear that they charge $200 per person if you call, and have someone sent out, but that if you find an artist to come out on their own time, it’s much cheaper. Any clue on where to find an artist like this?
I’m in the Maryland/Washington DC area.

@kim7242000: I had no idea MAC had a formal arrangement to send MUA out to you if you didn’t want to go to the counter. I used to work in cosmetics and had several friends at MAC. Granted, this was some time ago but I think they were only authorized from MAC’s perspective to work at the counter/store. As you know, many of them freelance on the side so I think you would have to go in and ask around individually. I would just go in and see whose makeup you like (or if they are working on someone, whoever looks like they’re doing a good job) and discreetly ask them if they do freelance work. I would venture to say that about 85% of them probably do.
