I honestly love the long line bra that davids bridal has you try on with their dresses. Because i am a 32/34DD I sometimes have a hard time finding strapless bras that stay up comfortably, and that one does. It is a pricey bra, but worth it. And they will order your size and garuntee that if it doesnt for some reason they will send it back and order until they find one that does. I will definately be wearing mine for things other than the wedding. I knwo that it cost a bit, but it is worth it since i can wear it for other things later on.
I would try any of the department stores in NYC. Saks, Bloomies should all have experienced sales people who can help you. Ask to try on the Le Mystere brand. It's pricey but worth every penny.
Also search NY Magazine's website. I'm sure they have speciality lingerie shops listed just in case you can't find what you need at the department stores.
There have been a couple posts on undergarments. Since you're in NYC, I would definitely try Bra Tenders in midtown. It's AMAZING! Just google them and you'll find their website. I can't tell you enough how great they are for bridal underwear and just every day bras too! I got all my stuff there, Raquel is the best!
Town Shop on the Upper West Side is good. I also had really good luck at Sak's. The service there is very good.
I second Town Shop - they have a very decent selection. I'm also a fan of the Nu-Bra (both the original and the featherlites) - they are stick on and really add a little something!
I went to lindas on the upper east side. My bra fits great! I got another one from victoria's that sucks! Returning that one.
The store where I got my dress: Kimera on Atlantic ave in Brooklyn has a bra shop in the basement. I think it's called idris.

I am wearing a strapless gown and need a serious push-up bra. I am not looking for a seriously cleavage-y look, but I need a little lift. Usually I just buy bras here and there, on sale at Macy's, wherever. I am an uninformed bra shopper. I want something a little better though, and need recommendations on where to go. Also, unless someone can recommend and AWESOME Victoria's Secret bra I would rather not go there -- I find their bras to be uncomfortable usually.
