Hi Bees! I hope you’re all having wonderful days 🙂
I’m in love with the idea of using beloved books to personalize not only the wedding, but general crafting around the house. (I’m thinking of attempting a bouquet of pages from the Harry Potter books) BUT I don’t want to be a Lauren Conrad and ruin a perfectly good book, so here’s my question:
Where do I find ruined/pages missing/falling-apart books so that I can use the remnants for my crafts? So far my only idea is to go to the library and ask what they do with the books they can’t keep on the shelves anymore. Any suggestions?

library remnants, or yard sales. A lot of time people are selling old books for very little, and they don’t have to be pretty or good. Also goodwill–the one near me has paperbacks something like 3/$5. Just find really thick ones. 🙂

A lot of used book stores have a free box as well

yard sales or used book stores. or check on ebay for “used book lot”.

Our local libraries have stores and they sell very cheap hardback books. A lot of them are super old, which makes them perfect for vintage-y decor (I bought a lot for my centerpieces!). Their regular price goes from 25cents-$1 each, but I happened upon a sale once and each book was only 10 cents. I also got a couple old encyclopedia sets for about $5-10, which is a great price for 20++ books! 🙂

Craigslist. Or maybe ask used book stores if they have stuff that isn’t selling that they would discard. Even if they don’t they probably have some books for really cheap. I got several 800 page paperbacks for $1 each.

@soontobeMrsBoo: Thanks! I hadn’t thought of Goodwill.
@Glasgowbound: I didn’t know that! I’ll definitely check it out.
@KateByDesign: Great idea with eBay…looking now!
Luckily I have plenty of time before the wedding so I can just keep an eye out. Hopefully I’ll be able to find one or two meaningful books and if I decide to use books for other decorations, I’ll just use any 🙂

@anteater: WOW that is a great deal! I don’t think any of the libraries around me have stores like that, but I’ll make some calls, because I may have just not seen them.
@JenGirl: Will definitely check out Craigslist…maybe if I put up a “Wanted” ad someone will have something laying around!
